What are the chances of this happening again in the future? Or worse, to other OMC sites? Can you track down "the man" through the virus and take him out, or is he going to be a bully to us?
Man this pisses me off the more I think about it. It's probably just because I feel so helpless. I wish there was something I can do. I mean c'mon, if someone broke into your home and screwed it all up, you would want mess 'em up, right?
If I were to catch this sad sad person, I would personally pull out all of his pubic hairs one by one. After that, the traditional purple nurple of doom, followed by an indian burn from the Gods. Then I would make him wear a school girl's dress so we can have a good laugh instead of worrying about an attack on our home again.....

The nook is the shit! But Shhhh, we don't want that to get out, or we'll have a shroomery invasion when it's back up! Then we'll all have to come back here while ya'll are there, then run home when you figure out where we went. Ahhhh, when will it ever end?
Seriously, the nook is definitely quality, especially when it comes to chemistry. And the pace and size definitely reminds me of this place in it's early days....I can feel like a lazy dork and peruse the boards there, while I feel like a speed freak injecting the forums here. Maybe I just need a new skin though....
Even if it's just mushroom info you want, there is good stuff there that is under the radar of most shroomerites, just as there is at mycotopia. A well rounded shroomer is missing out if they underestimate the power of fads and trends within a specific site. It happens, and things blossom at one site that are dismissed at another.....

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

I'm definitely gonna lurk a bit at the nook when it goes back up - but I'll always be a shroomery crackhead.

the admins are working on it... there is an explanation on the site as to what they believe happened, if you don't want to click on it, it reads:
"We were hacked in a significant fashion by some mean person on 3/26 - 3/27. If you get any emails from thenook.org, do not open them, the attachments have nasty things in them. I think and hope that the exploit has been found, and now we are trying to double check and return things to the way that they were. The hacker is trying to get back in and put popups with java viruses back on this index page, so untill we are more sure about how he got in, when you come back to check here, set your browser to it most secure level. Ill try to keep and eye on this file to be sure it isnt tampered with. I don't know why someone would be so malicious with our fine community."
when i click on it, all i get is
Quote:
Not Found The requested URL /forum/index.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.thenook.org Port 80

We've had to deal with hackers here in the past. One of them exploited a hole in our BB software and used it to delete posts. Another exploited a hole in phpAds and briefly used our server to send spam. We have some experience now locking things down by IP and whatnot, so if there's any way I can help the Nook admins get things back on track please let me know!
Peace,
-Y

Thanks to the community here for being gracious enough to allow us to share your irc server for the time being until we can get The Nook fully operational again.
I am not affiliated with the staff at The Nook but I consider them to be friends. The site was hacked essentially because our staff is very busy with their own lives. Most of us have jobs or are full-time students and security was probably lacking. I can't fill you in on the exact details because I am not on the staff.
As far as my presence here goes, I recently went through a bout of joblessness, followed by near bankruptcy and some personal problems. I can no longer participate during business hours, but I will try to start participating in the message boards again in the evenings and on weekends.
