95% of the computer world revolves around windows? where'd you get that stat? and how exactly does that make osx or linux inferior to windows?

i use GNU/linux at home, but when i'm in a computer lab (why are they called that?) on the campus of my university, i go with a mac. having never actually owned or had administrator access to one, what i know about them is mostly second hand.
in terms of hardware, the mac is the clear loser. as others have pointed out, you get a lot less power for your money when you buy a mac.
depending on the user, it may make up for it with the operating system. apple's OS X is superior to microsoft's windows. it's more stable and secure than windows. like windows, it is a proprietary, closed system provided by a large technology and media company that will sell you out to the interests of the government and media industry in a heartbeat.
'pc' hardware beats os x in performance/price, and linux beats both os x and windows in stability, security, performance, loyalty, and price (free). this is why my choice is standard hardware running linux.
if you want something a little better than a windows pc and are willing to pay out the nose for it, go ahead and get a mac. a much better choice, in both hardware and software, is a linux pc. the idea that linux is out of reach for everyone except dedicated computer nerds is a myth. it's quite usable. you can try it today, for free, without altering your current setup, using an ubuntu cd in live mode:

man , see when your in a school lab, yes use a mac cuz its a computer for dummies, you cant screw up. You go in, quickly type something up edit a photo, print something. Just a specific task. yes its great and often better then the pcs in the labs at school. But if you were to use that as your personal pc you would be very limited in terms of software.
dont forget that you can also download basically any software for windows in a second game, apps anything. For a mac...ul be forced to pay for it. If u wana play a game, wait another year till the mac version comes out.
and in terms of stability. OSX is only more stable then windows for 2 reasons: 1: you can do alot less with it in terms of custumization and options taht there is less to crash 2: viruses and things like that are usualy made to target pcs because of 2 reasons aswell. ---1 many ppl dont know how to program something to work on a mac ---2 if u make a virus u wana target the GREATER majority of computers, thus pcs.

osx and linux is not inferior, all are good. Its in terms of compatibility. If you wana use software, its alot easier to get software for windows no matter what it is.
all ur paying for when getting a mac these days is OSX, the use the same parts as pcs now and...so just pay for OSX i guess. Buy a laptop that is 2000 dollars with OSX
or buy the basically exact same laptop with 2x the features and power that is a pc...
its just paying for OSX and marketing, you awna be cool and have a cool white mac that ppl now think are cool? well then pay us alot. Its just that it is in style, and LATELY, macs happened to prove like they actually work. Everyone forgets the last 10 years of mac CRAP. comps that freeze, are slow as hell. The only reason they work now is cuz all that is left of teh mac, is the Operating system. Mac is dead. There is no more mac hardware parts.

man , see when your in a school lab, yes use a mac cuz its a computer for dummies, you cant screw up.
if i wanted "computer for dummies," i wouldn't have replaced windows with linux on my personal computers.
But if you were to use that as your personal pc you would be very limited in terms of software.
if hypermale has a need for windows-only software, he should weigh that against getting a mac. if he doesn't, the point is irrelevent. i personally do not find the choice of software limiting on os x, or even linux. in fact, there are a number of unix-only tools that i use regularly for which there are no good windows equivalents.
and in terms of stability. OSX is only more stable then windows for 2 reasons: 1: you can do alot less with it in terms of custumization and options taht there is less to crash
how is windows more customizable than a mac and in what way does this make it less stable or secure?
---2 if u make a virus u wana target the GREATER majority of computers, thus pcs.
that is one reason, but it's not the only reason. for a long time, the majority of the world's networked computers ran unix variants, and most of the world's webservers and its more important computers still do today. security through obscurity is a myth. unix variants like os x and linux are more secure than windows because windows was never designed to be a multi-user, networked platform. unix was.

the amount of applications available for windows is irrelevent when compared to osx. most of these applications are almost necessary for windows (i.e. anti-virus, anti-spyware, registry editors, defraggers, etc) and are not necessary for osx. osx has a wide variety of applications available and I would be willing to bet if you subtract the amount of windows-necessary applications from the general applications it would be roughtly equivalent to the amount available to osx.
besides gaming, what can you do with windows that you cannot do in osx? please provide an example of an application.
and as for the amount of applications available for linux, here's just one repo for one distro: http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages - there must be tens of thousands of applications.

Mac all the way. I don't see how anyone can even begin to say pc, I've yet to see a valid response saying a pc is better. I own a 27 inch I-Mac with an I 5 processor and there is nothing I have used that even comes close to the Mac and apple customer care even fixed my computer that had crashed after 1&1/2 years (It was 6 months out of warranty). I figure the reason it crashed was my fault because I went ahead and visited sites they warned me could harm my computer. They even warrantied the repair for 30 days! They are expensive but I got this one in 2011 from best buy on an open box discount for $1150.00, originally $1850. The only reason I had that kind of cash though is I had just won 2 grand on a lottery at my work.

The 24" iMac is the one getting the most attention, but even the 17" (not the very bottom line 17" model but the one up from it -- well worth the extra cash) is a very sweet machine. I bought a 17" for my mother a month ago and it is a wonderful piece of gear.
As for whoever claims Macs are "buggy" and crash, please tell me the name of your drug supplier, because I definitely want whatever you're smoking that allows you to distort reality to such an extent. Mac OS X is the most solid OS out there. And of course with the Mac OS X there is no more worry about worms and viruses.
Phred
Bullshit. Macs can and do get virus's just like any other operating system. I dont know whats so great about their overpriced consumer hostile computers. There is literally nothing special or unique about them aside from their hefty price tags and plain brushed steel cases.

I was about to build one from scratch, then I decided to buy a Macbook pro. BEST decision I have made.
If you build a machine that is twice as fast as a mac, within no time it will be twice as slow as the mac. Macs just work, most of the time. Windows seems to have so many fucking fucking problems, and they are so obscure which makes finding a solution is about 1000% harder.
My macbook is faster than the day i bought it 2 years ago.

If I get an Apple would a DSL or Cable Modem have to be external? Tell me what you think. I'm especially interested in hearing from MAC users which I know are in the minority.
All current macs have WiFi cards, but only some have wired LAN ports, if that's what you're asking. The ones that lack an ethernet port are to make them thinner, like the retina macbook pro and macbook air... the actual size of a wired lan port is too thick for those machines, so they dropped them as legacy heh. There are adapters for those laptops, however, and you can get a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD463ZM/A/thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adaptor
or a USB to ethernet adapter (for older macbook airs that lack Thunderbolt port)
http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/product/MC704ZM/A/apple-usb-ethernet-adaptor
Aside from this, you're probably going to want a wireless router, which you connect your modem to.
An Airport Express is a decent option if your needs are light
http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
or you could get an Airport Extreme Base Station or Time Capsule (which is a router that also does wireless backups to its remote HDD)

OS X has slews of problems, just like Windows. It's just that most people who check their email, browse facebook, and watch porn will never notice them Regardless, I still love Macs and OS X.... but a power user will uncover serious bugs in no time.
