Vandango, next time you have your doctor's appointment, you should post a job listing on Craigslist in the help wanted section saying that you are looking for a driver.

His insurance covers all that though, it would be a waste of money.

In the ad, you should state exactly what particular day and time you need a ride, and the exact amount of money you are offering for the job. I used to do this when looking for rides and I got literally hundreds of emails and replies.

I recommend posting at least one week in advance, so that you can sort through all the emails, and read everybody's bio and age and car make and model, so that you can select exactly the person who you think would be right for you. You should save a couple people's numbers just in case one of them doesn't follow through.

If it takes 45 minutes to get there, you should offer maybe $30 one-way. If they can wait around while you're seeing your doctor and bring you back, they get another $30. They end up working for 3 hours and make $20 an hour, and one of those hours they're not even technically working. So it's not a bad gig for somebody who's young and looking for a couple extra bucks. $20-$25 an hour is more than fair wage.

I always paid $30 an hour, but that's only because they had to drive through LA traffic which is the worst.

I don't have to pay for these insurance rides. They are included in my insurance. Free round trips.  9/10 times they hire amazing cab companies.  This one I am dealing with now ( And never again ) is a new one.  I have 6 days left til I have a car again.

Ohhhhhh I missed that part.

So I guess the insurance covers rides for him?

Oh well, if that's the case, then yeah, I wouldn't be worried about the cost either.

And since the insurance covers the ride, and the cab is to adhere to the fact I am a patient under their care to get to and from the doctor appointment safely and securely, they are WAY WAY out of bounds picking up another patient showing them my personal info, missing my appointment, and allowed anyone to scream at me like that.

I feel like this cab company really really really fucked up. This wasn't like I called a random company to get me, these people are employed through united healthcare.

Yeah, I feel tentatively bad for the company itself.

Its the driver and whatever scumbag ass-sucking hooker he picked up's fault

I don't even like complaining. I don't like seeing people losing their job, but fuck man I sat in this sweaty cab for over two hours dealing with this shit for absolutely nothing, missed my appointment, and fucked me on sleep for tonight.

You guys have to understand that cab drivers pay a fee every month to use the medallion to work for the taxi cab company. That fee is a lot, it's like a couple a hundred dollars a month. Depending on where you live it could be $800 a month or more. So a lot of times cabbies who don't make that money end up owing money to the taxi company. Now I use Uber, but if I were to use a cab, I'd tip.

why is that the consumers fault or responsibility? If its to much, they can lower their price or die and let uber/lyft take over.

I'm just saying, it's not the driver's fault. It's like being mad at a company then yelling at the poor $8 an hour retail worker because you don't like the company's policies.

It's not enabling shitty service.

They realize "fuck I should've served them better, imagine how much better they would've tipped?"

Nah, I agree with California.

If they even think about it, its probably more like "hah, fuck that guy, he tipped me anyways."

Killing with kindness just makes you a sucker.
Most people don't give a shit.

There was actually one time, when I was bartending at a karaoke bar. This group of girls, I guess they were a black sorority party or bachelorette party or something, come in and get a table in the karaoke lounge. Now at this bar, you're supposed to pay $2 to buy a song ticket if you want to sing a song. A different table had put in some songs, and somehow this group of girls got the mic and were singing.

I could see the other customers were upset, and I assumed that the girls had stolen the songs from this person, so I went over and grabbed their mics and said that I was going to have to charge them by taking their song tickets they ordered for the songs they sang, because they took the songs from this other customer. I was kind of accusing them of stealing the songs from this other customer, so naturally they were upset.

I guess I didn't know that another server had given them the mics by accident, so they weren't at fault for singing those songs. Once I found out about 15 minutes later what happened, I went back to the table and explained the situation and apologized and reimbursed their song tickets.

I thought there's no way I'm going to get a good tip from this, but they ended up tipping me 30% (which is a lot on a $200 tab), and I felt instantly bad when they left that much. I should have played it cool and been nicer to them.

So yeah, killing with kindness absolutely can happen.
