When you get your car Vandago, you should become an Inner driver to fill the hole in your city and stock it to the cab driver.

To make matters worse I just got done with ANOTHER cab ride. This was through my insurance.
I am on house arrest so I have allotted times I can leave the house. This guy gets here a half hour early. I can't go outside.
I finally hit the 3 o clock mark and go out there......he says he has to go pick up another client.
We drive 10 minutes out of the way ( he could've gotten her instead of picking me up early ) and tells me we are going to have to drop her off FIRST then me and then when I am done go wait for her, tells me to call my doctor and tell them I will be LATE!!!!
I call the insurance company to calmly complain, I can't be late to this doctor I only see them once a month.
He actually hands the woman in the back seat my information while we were arguing about him being early, and asks her to read what it says, like a child arguing in front of his parents......so now this woman knows my medical info, address, where I am going.
She starts screaming at me about what a piece of shit white trash scum bag I am, with no job living off the government, and I'm a liberal piece of trash. This lady continues to insult me for a half an hour while the cab driver gets lost looking for her appointment.
Finally his dispatch calls him and says to drop her off at a GAS STATION PARKING LOT!!!! He drops her off in the middle of no where, then drives me to my appointment a half an hour late, as they are locking the doors.
I missed my appointment and he just drove me home.
I just sat in that cab for 2 goddamn hours and didn't even get to see my doctor, and have to reschedule, and now explain this to my house arrest officer.
Holy shit I am having a bad day.

After taxes I made about 20 bucks on an 8 hour shift tonight.
I need a car so bad. Life is absolutely beating the living fuck out of me so bad.
That's after paying for the ride, right? Otherwise how is that possible? I make like $80/day after taxes (unless I work OT) and I am pretty close to the bottom of the barrel. My expenses for my car is like $15/day maybe, which ain't cheap, but beats 60 and I have a nice new car I can drive whenever I want.

You guys have to understand that cab drivers pay a fee every month to use the medallion to work for the taxi cab company. That fee is a lot, it's like a couple a hundred dollars a month. Depending on where you live it could be $800 a month or more. So a lot of times cabbies who don't make that money end up owing money to the taxi company. Now I use Uber, but if I were to use a cab, I'd tip.

Damn dude, that's fucked. I've never heard about anything like that happening with Uber or Lyft. The oldschool taxi industry needs to die in a fire.

Then maybe they should find a different line of work . They have to bet some people just aren't going to tip, it would be foolish to think or plan otherwise. I don't mind being one of those accounted for and labeled as cheap or whatever for not tipping a cab driver. Also I'm pretty sure not every city has this medallion system and I'm pretty sure my city does not. It's too small and tips or not there's no way any cab company could operate and make a profit with such a system in place, not unless the medallions are a hell of a lot cheaper here. There's simply not enough demand for it around here because there are not enough people taking cabs. I don't even see a cab every day I go out driving.
My willingness to tip for really anything is also based around it being something I chose to do and not something I had to do. If I go out to eat, I chose to go out to eat and I chose to pick a place to eat where tipping is expected. When I've had to take a cab it's because I had to show up for something and literally had no other options on how to get there. Cabbie is just gonna have to be happy with the knowledge that I damn sure wouldn't be paying someone a hundred dollars to drive me somewhere if I didn't absolutely have to. That's more than enough to rent a car for a day (gas included) if I had my license at the time.

If all drivers found a different line of work, then you'd no longer be able to find a ride in places that don't have Uber or Lyft.
Pretty sure every city has a medallion system. That's how the taxi cab company keeps their monopoly and drives their prices artificially high, is by using a medallion type system.
Otherwise I'm pretty sure all these unhappy taxi cab drivers would simply start their own cab company and offer lower prices to give themselves a competitive edge. But they can't, because of the medallions. Back in the day, any car could simply paint a sign on their car that said "TAXI" and they'd be in business. Now you can't do that anymore. There's so much red tape and costs that aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses can't win.
I don't know, just sounds too much like the customer that refuses to tip waitresses because they complain that their meal is high enough already. You're punishing the poor worker who's already barely scraping by for something that they have no control over, for something the company does.

I think if it is something you do regularly, then it is probably wise to tip if you can afford it and want preferential treatment, if not, who gives a fuck? It doesn't matter.
Does anyone tip the bus driver? No. Do you tip an airline pilot? No. I would say tips are not customary in the transportation industry and I for one am not crusading to change that.

By the way, you guys should find drivers through Craigslist. I've done that before.
If I know for a fact that I'm going to need a ride at a certain time, on a certain day. I'll post an ad on Craigslist at least 2 or 3 days beforehand saying that I'm seeking drivers, and that I'm offering X amount of pay for a ride there and back.
I usually offer $60 for a 60 to 80 mile driving-distance, which I think is pretty fair. Uber charges more, but when you factor in the fact that they take over half your earnings, it amounts to roughly the same thing. You get to have a cheaper ride than if you had used Uber, and the driver gets paid $30 an hour for only 2 hours of work. It's a win-win situation.
If you're being driven 20 miles, you could put up $20 or $25. Generally I put up $1 per mile or so to make it worth people's time. Nobody's going to go out of their way to drive somebody 20-30 miles for $5 or $10, except really seedy people who you might not be able to trust.
You'd be surprised, I literally got HUNDREDS of emails too with each posting. A lot of people out there are looking for jobs. I felt bad that I could only pick one and would end up having to say no to the rest of them.
I even tipped my personal driver from Craigslist too. I would tip $10 or $20 depending on how far they drove me.

I'm fine with cab drivers finding other lines of work. I don't use them. I can drive myself now and I can rent a car for a hell of a lot less than a cab costs me. Even for short periods like an hour or something. I can go to Uhaul and rent a truck for like 20 dollars. 20 dollars in a cab would probably get me from my house to Uhaul and I can walk there in about 10 minutes.
I'm not punishing anyone. I didn't make the system up.
Also if you look it up, not all cities do have medallion systems. Most have some form of licensing system but I really doubt they are all as outrageous as the New York or other major city example you're gonna pull up. I'm not saying they're getting rich by driving cabs but you can't apply one city's system to the entire United States like that is just the norm.

Bus drivers work for the city or school district, and pilots make a salary of $80K at least. That's why you don't have to tip them. If that bus driver is your personal driver driving your band on tour or something, you should tip the driver if they work for a company. Or if they operate their own bus and it's their own business, you two agree on a rate that is fair and acceptable.
Tipping your taxi cab driver is just as customary as tipping your hairdresser. A lot of people don't even know you're supposed to tip your hair dresser.
If you hire a limo, it's also customary to tip the limousine driver.

Tips are based on good service, or expectation of great service IMHO. If I knew a cabby that drove me before and was quick and safe, I'd be inclined to tip them, if they were slow, hell no. If my barber fucks up my cut, no tip. If a bartender/waitress provides good service, tips for them, if they fuck up or are too slow for the scene, no tips.

I would say it is more customary to tip hairdressers. I almost never take taxis, and never alone, but nobody really seems to care about taxi drivers, and nobody really seems to suffer for it.
What are they going to do? Crash the car? Take longer to get where you're going out of spite even though they would lose money doing that?
It's easy to get through a cab ride just staring at your phone where barbers and such have an intimate relationship with their clientele. The average person cares alot more about who touches their hair than the person they trust with their life piloting an automobile. Sad but true.

What do you mean too slow though? Because sometimes your food coming out just takes longer to make, and this is not necessarily the wait staff's fault that the chefs are taking a long time to cook your food.
I can understand giving a bad tip, like 5% or 10%, but no tip at all is too much. Especially for wait staff who already only make $2 or something per hour. I've seen people post pictures of checks where people have stiffed them on $200 checks.

Wait staff whom makes $2 an hour has the right and freedom to move to where they can make more, or find a higher-paying line of work altogether. I'm not going to fucking tip someone whom can't figure out how to make more money just because.
I mean too slow if the place isn't busy. If it is dead and it takes forever, fuck that, but if it is busy and rush hour, it is understandable.

Right, because people who aren't making enough should simply just find another job that makes more. What a novel concept. That's what we should all do. Find jobs that make more.

Again, how is it the fault of the wait staff if your food is slow to come out?
