Right, because people who aren't making enough should simply just find another job that makes more. What a novel concept. That's what we should all do. Find jobs that make more.

I mean too slow if the place isn't busy. If it is dead and it takes forever, fuck that, but if it is busy and rush hour, it is understandable.
Again, how is it the fault of the wait staff if your food is slow to come out?
Well I'm not stopping them from making more money. They certainly aren't going to get an automatic tip from me for their overall lack of effort in life. If they earn it, they get a tip, that is the entire point from my POV.
I've seen wait staff waste time and talk amongst each other. It can certainly be their fault.

It makes me laugh how much of a 'thing' tipping is in the US. I'm grateful here that we have the freedom to tip only when we feel it is truly deserved, without being made to feel like a cunt if you feel it is not.
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Sometimes you will see your food sitting in the little bay widow ready to be served and they will be dicking around back laughing or outside smoking or something. I agree though the waitstaff takes alot of the heat for the chef sometimes, but they also can do alot better than the chefs and not share the benefits in alot of places.
It takes alot for me not to leave at least a decent tip at a restaurant though, and I always tip wherever I see a tip jar but I usually just put $1 in a jar.

I tip, as it is a thing here, but I share your sentiment that it must be deserved, and I never feel like a cunt if I don't tip some lazy moron whom just expects a tip for simply doing their fucking job.

You don't have to eat out. You can order take-out if you don't want to tip.
If you know you're not going to tip beforehand, you should at least tell the wait staff at the beginning, so that you can offer to get your own drinks and get your own food and utensils. If people did that, I would think that's more than fair to not offer up a tip.

They can find other lines of work if they're not making enough as is. We can do this all day.

Haha, back when I was a server, I noticed foreigners were the worst at tipping. A group of flight attendants who were flying in from British Airways came in one time, and I automatically placed an 18% gratuity on their bill, because I could just tell they weren't familiar with American tipping customs. A lot of restaurants allow you to add a mandatory gratuity fee if we had a feeling that somebody wasn't going to tip.
If people stopped tipping, restaurants would simply add an automatic 18% to 20% gratuity on the customer's bill.

If you're not planning on paying, why do you expect them to wait on you? After taxes, the $2 they make per hour they gets taken out by taxes so they end up with a check of $0. This means their pay rests solely on you. They could be serving other customers and providing better service to other tables who will tip in the meantime.

Some people legitimately enjoy the work or choose to work that because it fits with their class schedule. Still doesn't mean you can stiff somebody for no reason without getting called out.

Their pay rests solely between themselves and their boss, and also the pay/tax structure of their State.
I never know if I am not going to tip beforehand, as my tips are exclusively service-based. If I go to a place I have been before and had great service I certainly do plan to tip, but if I get shit service at a new place, fuck 'em.

Anyone who wants a tip from me better be providing great service or the tip I will give them is to get a better job. Their class schedule is not my fault either. I'm not stiffing anyone. I tip, and I tip on my own system, just as wait staff chooses their employment and chooses their own class schedule.

this right here reminds me of the scene in reservoir dogs where Mr. Pink is explaining why he doesn't tip
"Uh uh, I don’t tip. No, I don’t believe in it. … Don’t give me that, if she don’t make enough money she can quit. … I don’t tip because society says I have to. All right, I mean I’ll tip if someone really deserves a tipping, if they really put forth the effort, I’ll give them something extra, but I mean this tipping automatically, it’s for the birds. I mean as far as I’m concerned they’re just doing their job. … She was okay. She wasn’t anything special. … Look I ordered coffee all right? Now we’ve been here a long fuckin’ time, she’s only filled my cup three times. When I order coffee I want it filled six times. … The words “too fuckin’ busy” shouldn’t be in a waitress’ vocabulary. … Jesus Christ, these ladies aren’t starving to death. They make minimum wage. I used to work minimum wage and when I did I wasn’t lucky enough to have a job that society deemed tip worthy. … You know what this is? It’s the world’s smallest violin playing just for the waitresses. … So is working at McDonald’s but you don’t feel the need to tip them do you? Well why not? They’re serving you food. But no, society says don’t tip these guys over here, but tip these guys over here. That’s bullshit. … Fuck all that. … I mean I’m very sorry the government taxes their tips. That’s fucked up. That ain’t my fault. I mean it would appear that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. I mean show a piece of paper that says the government shouldn’t do that, I’ll sign it, put it to a vote, I’ll vote for it, but what I won’t do is play ball. And this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fucking type, ’cause if you’re expecting me to help out with the rent you’re in for a big fucking surprise."

Yeah, I'm referring to people who know they are walking into an establishment beforehand with the intention not to tip.
I've heard of customers like this, but have never encountered them myself. But I was wait-staffing in a city that apparently is ranked to be #1 in the nation's most generous tippers. Almost all tips I received were a minimum of 20%. It wasn't uncommon for me to get 30% tips. Very few times I got a bare minimum of 15%. I never got completely stiffed at all.

I tip the gas station dude(here in Oregon it is illegal to pump your own fuel) because he always runs to my car when it is busy and hot out(or raining) because he knows I am going to tip because he makes an effort, and it works for both of us because I get fueled-up first and have less of a wait than others, and he profits. That's how my system works.

No Tipping Trend Spreads as Two More Top Portland Restaurants Eliminate Gratuity Restaurants will display "Gratuity-Free" logo.
Navarre, the 28th avenue tapas restaurant consistently ranked among the finest in the city, and East Burnside Italian spot Luce—declared the 4th best new restaurant in America by food magazine Bon Appetit in 2012—will adopt a gratuity-free policy by the end of the year.
Both restaurants are owned by chef John Taboada—who also owns the Angel Face bar next to Navarre—begin their no-tipping policy by the end of the year.
Those restaurants will join Bent Brick, Park Kitchen, Farm Spirit and Gabriel Rucker's French-influenced Le Pigeon—which topped Willamette Week's list of the finest restaurants in Portland in our October 2015 restaurant guide
All will display a logo developed by New York restaurateur Andrew Tarlow (Reynard, Wythe Hotel) declaring themselves gratuity-free establishments.
In all cases, the prices on the menu will rise, but instead of the majority of the money going to the server, it will also be distributed to the cooks, dishwashers and everybody else responsible for making the restaurant what it is. Under current tipping policies, servers often receive drastically higher compensation than chefs, when tips are factored in.
Which is to say, the wage will be paid by the restaurant directly, and not each diner who walks in.
Recent circuit court rulings have made the common practice of tip pooling, in which servers tip out back-of-house staff from their tips, a much more fraught issue—in many cases forbidding tips to be shared with cooks and dishwashers who don’t interact with customers.
The move to drop tips has not been without hitches, however—nor prominent defectors. Pok Pok restaurateur Andy Ricker opened with a no-tipping policy, then stopped it abruptly, declaring Los Angeles “not ready.” then started them up again, at his Los Angeles restaurants.
Kurt Huffman, owner of ChefStable restaurant group (Ox, Lardo, St. Jack, Oven and Shaker), ardently advocated for no tipping—and opened many-tapped beer-bar Loyal Legion with a no-tip policy—then walked back both Loyal Legion’s Tipping policy and his support of the idea, declaring gratuity-free policies a “terrible idea.”
Le Pigeon will begin its no-tipping policy this Saturday, June 18. Vegan restaurant Farm Spirit is already tip-free—as it has been since opening in June 2015. Park Kitchen will drop tips July 1, and Bent Brick will drop tipping July 2.

I believe it, especially in more rural areas where people work at a slower pace. I haven't seen many lazy wait staff in coastal cities or metropolitan urban cities.
I've noticed though, when I've gone to more rural areas like Arizona or New Mexico, the customer service is a lot slower. People take all the time in the world, and they are more casual when they speak, like "Whaddya want?" That shit would never fly on the east coast.

Indeed. Location and setting does have something to do with that aspect of it.
