the song Fireflies by Owl City is actually talking about lucid dreaming? * 1

Admittedly, I thought the song was pretty lame when I heard it. But recently I had a friend start jamming out to it and I didn't say anything but towards the end of the song he mentioned that he really liked the song because he thinks it's talking about lucid dreaming.

So I replayed it and listened to the lyrics and I totally see where he's getting that idea. It made me have a new appreciation for the song. What do you guys think?

Admittedly, i kind of like the song lol He seems to be singing about his dreaming but i didnt hear anything about lucid dreaming. Maybe i missed the connection?

He says something like "i feel like such an insomniac" "why do i tire of counting sheep" "im too tired to fall asleep" there in the middle of the song. :confused: lol

Yeah, I caught that part too. But then I hear things like:

"You would not believe your eyes if 10 million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep."

"You'd think me rude but I would just stand there and stare."

"It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep, cause everything is never as it seems."

I think when he starts talking about feeling like an insomniac and everything he's complaining that he can't fall asleep because he wants to enter that world again. The reason I say that is because right after he says that part he says "to 10 million fireflies, I'm weird cause I hate goodbyes. I got misty eyes as they said farewell. But I'll know where several are if my dreams get real bizarre because I saved a view and I keep them in a jar."

I think he's saying that they're still in his head even if he can't fall asleep and even if he had to say goodbye to them. But when he falls asleep he'll know where they are.

Me and my friends would dance and jam out to awful music everytime we'd drive around, justin beiber, taylor swift, carly rae jepsen, literally everything that was considered shit or just was shit yet was still slightly catchy. Still have no idea why we did it but this song was one of them and it was good times :lol:

Im not particularly fond of this song but it brings back good and fun memories, i used to think it was about him being in a coma for some reason but i can see it being lucid dreaming now that you mention it

I had a girlfriend who liked the song. It's pretty catchy IMO. I can play it on the ukulele.
