The only things I know about it is that you do have to compile a very thorough submission about what your doing, and very specific details about the subject of the patent.

Then you put it in to the patent gods with a fee which covers a world wide search for any similar or identical patents (because someone in a lab in Basel might have already beat you to it..assuming it's related to our favourite subjects discussed here) then after a fucking long time they get back to you with an answer.

I knew a kid with way too much family money that wanted to patent some stupid coffee thing. Can't even remember what it was but that's the rap I got about patents.

I think intellectual property (e.g., patenting an "idea") is much more difficult than patenting a tangible item.

The reason is because its simple to come up with an idea. Making the idea happen is the hard part.

I invented stickers. Patenting them wasn't that hard but actually going through all the lawsuits you have to deal with to make sure you don't have your patent shat upon is incredibly difficult. I wish I'd never invented patents. FUCK.

Some of the things companies have tried to patent are pretty funny. I know for sure some dickheads or other tried to patent entire species of plants in various places and I have a vague feeling that somebody had the audacity to try and patent rainwater in certain regions.

I'll let you own oxygen if I can patent sex.
