The 'panama papers' is a leak of 11.5 million pages of documents dating back 40 years documenting the transactions of the third largest offshore banking firm.

They are the literal paper trail that lead back to world leaders. The prime minister of iceland has already stepped down from office after 10,000 people protested in front of the capitol there.

This is the biggest leak of it's kind. They have been leaked for over a year but a group of dedicated journalists took their time to comb through them to get to the truth. None of the 'accused' actually have their own names on the accounts. This way it can only lead back to an associate. For instance mr vladmir putin's holdings were in his daughters and friends names. He took out millions of dollars in loans to 'pay' for things like his daughter's wedding. This is how the transactions are hidden. They look legitimate on paper but it is currently estimated that several trillion (1,000,000,000,000) dollars worth of money is currently held overseas to avoid local taxes.

These people need to hung from a fucking tree.

All of us pay taxes. Why don't the super rich?

In the case of people in power, it is literally stealing money from your own fucking people.

The rich from the govt?

Are you fucking kidding me? This is a scale unprecedented. We're not talking about lying about a 200 tip on a tax return this is literally enough money to repair the roads in the nations infrastructure.

The offshore firm even indirectly helped finance and hide the money of the dictators in syria even after sanctions had been put in place to prevent these things.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

The government does waste a ton of money and they spend much of it on nonsense. But that doesn't make taxation extortion. You still get a lot of benefits that are funded by tax dollars.
