Why did England's standard of living drop so much?

At the start of WWII England's per capita GDP was double the French and Germans and Swedish. Why are the English so much poorer now? Statistics say that the standards dropped in the 60's and 70's and never recovered? Can I politely ask do people feel worst off then before? GDP per capita of Canada is almost U.S.D. $50,000..the UK is not even $40,000...wow.

And then the massive subsequent influx of people from the poorest countries in the EU. Not that I've got anything against that, but they're willing to work for so little it's kinda screwing British people out of jobs.

I've seen London change from a place where most people were British, or spoke English, to a place where I can go hours without hearing anyone speak a word of English.

Then you've got all the PC crowd, killing our heritage and tradition in case a non-British person get's 'offended'.

It's basically just a giant balls up, and it's all coming to a head..

Part of the reason I'm gonna GTFO here asap and go to Oz.

As well as joining the EU
Importing more immigrants than their island can handle
And massive corruption / cronyism


Nationalism has gone out the window in much of the West, now we just have vampires running the political levers who genuinely couldn't give the smallest fuck about their nations.

if only people weren't influenced to do any of that. i wonder how that would work? people would have to stop hating on each other for the actions of an elite few whom pit everyone against eachother for resources -- not to mention the bile of racism. maybe if idiots didn't idiot, then idiots wouldn't be produced on the consumer line.

The Brit decline in the '60s and 70s predate Thatcher and the EU by quite a bit.

My only gripe with all the immagrants flooding in is how they (seemingly) refuse to integrate with the locals.. won't learn the language, live in segregated communities, etc.

I mean I get it, I get humans (generally), like AA says, they 'don't give a fuck'; it's really the worst of a bad situation...

You know in the Muslem parts of England, like Luton, there are unofficial Sharia courts? The real court can over rule them, but in such tight groups, it probably doesn't happen often
