cheap and easy large gloveBAG
    #2297517 - 02/03/04 03:46 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I was bored yesterday so i decided to build a glove box. I realized i don't want or need a large box siting around taking up space. So i had a great idea. I took a large thick industrial clear plastic bag, about 3'x4'. My dad gets it from work on a big roll. I then used a quart deli container, duct tape, 80mm PC fan, and a disk mask filter for hazmat painting ect to build a filtered inlet to innflate the bag, and taped this on a corner. To seal the bag I used duct tape folded over. So to open the bag I will need to cut the tape just before where the plastic is, unless if you can pull the tape off without tearing the bag.

After many uses the bag size will go down so I will need to replace it. I will only need to use this about 2-3 times a year, so it should last me a few years.

The only problem with it is the time it takes to inflate, about 15-20 min. So i think im going to hook up a small 115 cfm Dayton fan with a resistor. Thatway i can crank up the fan to inflate, then turn it down to keep it inflated.

Right now i have it all deflated and Rolled up. It takes up about 1'x 6" dia, thats more like it.

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Sounds like it'll work.

You'll probably want to keep the fan off while working, as the point of a glove box is a still air enviroment. Even with a filter, I wouldn't trust it.
Just my 2 cents.

Good Luck

Waht should i spray down the inside with first to steralize everything? H2O2, rubbing alk, both? what order?

There wont be much air exchange once the bag is inflated. Just the small amout that might leak, but its quite airtight. The fan will just get backed up with the pressure and freewheel. These filters are better then a hepa so i trust them. My dad trusts them with his life doing hazmat (lead, mercury, asbestos removal)

I always use chlorine for disinfection - it is very cheap and works great. Instead of the fan you could use a little air cleaning unit with a HEPA filter like people who are allergic to pollen use it. I bought a cheap one at eBay and it works very well. Once I left a petri dish with agar open for 5 minutes in front of it for testing purposes. There was still no contamination.

I would spray the inside walls and work surface with a 10% bleach solution and wipe it down good, then spray all inside with lysol or the like. Let the lysol settle for 5-10 min. then your good to go.

Good Luck

I have a hepa grade filter after the fan, so its all good there. Bleach it is. I just inflated it in hope of taking a pic for you guys, but I seem to have misplaced my camera. :frown:

you should try using the large size vaccume sealer bags. YOu know the kind you put clothes in and then use a vaccume to suck out the air?

They are air tight AND RESEALABLE
