So anyways... this was a great idea when it happened... still is.. and... well.. I'd rather shred alot of straw at once for a good reason, if you get a good batch of straw (ie. low contam problems) you want alot of it... that shit from walmart you never know what your getting... and as far as how much you use... well I think it was 5 lbs straw & 16quarts rye filled a 8 sq ft. cropping thing 5-6 inches..

Heh McMan,
Glad to see you still here abouts. Had to give hats off to Rip for reason. Like to see some old hat shit brought up, with some new twists. That blower/shredder idea is great. Could possibly cut down on some of that extranious material. (I also liked the dung straw/dung mix suggestions in past).
Hear you on contams, but have seen most folks fair well with adequate pasturization. Though, does not get you completely past all possible bugs. Then again, I am an old dung fan from way back.

Yeah I guess it does make alot of sense to shred alot at once if you use it over time. I just had this vision of you filling up lots of trash bags with straw. I mean lots of trash bags is more than one and their close friends need for a long time. But shredding all at once sounds very good to me. I think I'll shred all of my straw at once.

i just steal some from my local cow or horse field, i know its unethical, which i do feel guilty about but the farmers i know buy in trucloads of the shit so they get it for a damn good price, and i dont take but a grabage bag full... anyways, i just lay it out on a cutting board around 4ftx4ft squared and use a circluar razor used for cutting fabric and run the razon back and forth and then stack more on it and do it again, its fast
