Alcohol detox

So last Tues. a had a bed reserved for a week to detox from  :faded: So Sunday, I put on the game(Go Big Blue!)  and at the first commercial break, I use the bathroom. Shit tons of blood from both ends. Wife rushes me to the ER which was almost empty being super bowl day. Blood transfusion,plus  8 more units of blood, constant saline drips, ample amounts of Librium  and atavan took care of the dt's, and the Fentanyl apparently made it easy to shove a camera down my mouth into my stomach.When I woke up  I asked when they were going to do it, they said it's done. 2 bleeding ulcers. Blood pressure spiked above 250 at one point, mild Pneumonia. No food or water for2 1/2  days, but when they did allow me solid food, I ate like a pig and  put on almost  6 lbs. in 4 days(That's only when I wasn't knocked out on the benzos.) Then they put me on a bland diet and kicked me out this past Sat. They said they're not a detox facility, they just took care of the internal bleeding and the dts because I was shaking like a son of a bitch.Tomorrow I got to find a local Intensive outpatient program , and a AA program. I need to be 6 months alcohol free to be eligible for this new treatment for Hep C that has about an 80% chance to stop the disease. I gotta do this...:shrug: . . . :peace:

UPDATE  ...  Feb 14 was the start date of my sobriety. It's been 10 days. (a new record )  I did check out Evergreen Substance Abuse Treatment Center  ... Registered, interviewed, talked about Intensive Outpatient Program... Their requirements; 3  -  3 hour meetings 9AM or 6 PM. , PLUS 4 AA meetings a week. Seemed like a little much. Also weekly U A's... I discussed with the staff my position on medicinal marijuana and my process of getting my NJ card.. Also my legal script for Ambien. Both a big problem...:shrug:Anyway,  I don't miss the drink one bit, and I'm back working as much as I want (or  can)  with this  local homeowner who's in the process of buying a 3rd house that's gonna need work.:money: I've got good steady work through summer...Besides, I have a good friend that lives in a state with normal MM laws,  and a generous batch of medicine just arrived, and I'm not even a big smoker anymore. ..:happyweed: . . I'm so determined to stay dry, it's un real. And tobacco stinks like balls since I quit that poison. Thanks for the support, Shroomery.  :hug:  It only took 40 years for me to get my shit together. Some of you might want to take care of it a little sooner.:smirk: Apparently, it's not impossiible . . . :peace:

Congratulations.... and I mean that with every single bone in my body. Alcohol is such a wicked, deceitful insidious beast. How this shit is legal is so absolutely fucked up.

While I never became physically addicted to alcohol, it has had some disastrous effects on my life and the lives of my friends and family. It's weird really, I was a drug addict for many years and was able to quit everything. Dexedrine, Desoxyn (pharmaceutical methamphetamine, Oxymorphone, Hydromporphone, Cocaine, Nitrous Oxide, DMT, Mushrooms, LSD, etc... But after that I became a pretty big alcoholic.

Got an extreme DUI (blew more than 3x the legal limit at the scene, .25) the day before Thanksgiving. It's just so hard to get away from. Since then I've been sober except for the 15th of this month where I got so stressed out I got a 6 pack. Ended up drinking it and had an appointment for work release jail time (my dui had a mandatory minimum of 10 days in jail) at 10am and my interlock registered a fail, which meant I blew over a .02.

In 92 days I've only had that 6pk and I have no idea what the consequences of that are going to be since it's recorded on the interlock, (Never knew a 6pk of 6% beer would register over a .02 9 hours later).

Anyways, I'm going off tangent. Alcohol is the most incredibly evil substance ever created by man. It's the cause of hundreds of thousands of deaths a year. It's caused untold amounts of spousal and family abuse. It's caused otherwise normal people to do completely incomprehensible acts upon others.

So keep on truckin man. It's a fucking struggle, I know. You can't walk into a fucking grocery store or gas station without that poison staring you straight in the face. You can't go to a restaurant without seeing people guzzle liquor, beer or wine.

One thing that helps me is a story my former NA sponsor shared with me. He was in Rehab 5 years ago and a guy he thought was a total douchebag said something incredibly profound.

"A man and his family go out to dinner.  He orders a beer and drinks it while eating his meal. After he's done he orders another beer and drinks about half of it. He pays the check and leaves with his family with the half drank beer sitting there. You know what I think about those people? 


FUCK THEM!"

Notice I didn't post in that thread anymore.:ashamed:

I tried quitting on my own for 2 more years.
Didn't go to IOP or AA, "I got this." :snub:

I had a little luck, but when I went back out, I drank much worse.
I was back in the ICU two more times before I finally went to rehab.
(5 days for internal bleeding, 7 days for a systemic infection)

All I'll say is if you think you have a problem with alcohol,
try and take care of it sooner than later.
It's not going to get any easier.

i gotta say tho vinsue, that's one helluva story. i'm both surprised and not about the marijuana bit, personally i think it's far better to have something like marijuana to do to fill the void that booze filled. it's hard though, because marijuana kind of makes (me) a less sociable person, and drinking makes me happy and sociable. glad to see you're on the right path though

Over 20 months with no alcohol, 1 day at a time.
I've accepted the fact that I'm allergic to it and can't use it anymore.:shrug:
I do use MJ daily and kratom almost every morning.

Also the Hep C virus is now undetectable after my 12 week treatment.
I have final blood work in November to confirm that it's gone...:monkeydance:

The DT's suck

I recently quit for the several thousandth time

6 nights, no sleep, to the point I was hallucinating like mad.

Usually it lasts up to 5 days for me.

Hopefully you're done with them. The eating is a good sign but might just be the benzos.
