Psilocybe mexicana questions
    #13104093 -

Hello all,

I have been doing some research on Psilocybe mexicana and related strains / species, I have enjoyed reading these threads:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/10605734/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/48

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2331767

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11140509/page/1

And all of Captain Futures, stonesuns & Workmans threads!

I have a couple of questions,

On average how would you rate the stone and fruit production of each strain?

(obviously there are many factors contributing to both stone and fruit production's growth parameters as there are many variations of procedures undertaken from one grower to the next, I am just after run of the mill info.)

I have concluded that:

P. Mexicana Has great stone production and fruits well

Atl #7 also has great stone production and fruits well (maybe not quite as good as P. Mexicana but very close and in some cases maybe better?)

P. Tampanensis smaller stones and fruits alright

Jalisco has poor stone production compared to the rest but fruits really well.

am I close?

Is drying the sub essential before putting into fruiting conditions?

If so how long is recommended, and what would be the best way to do this as sterile as possible?

For fruiting I was thinking of casing the spawn (rye grain / berries) in a 70 coir, 20 verm & 10 gypsum (stones and all as I can harvest all of it later so I run less chance of a risk for introducing contamination's)

any good?

tips?

Thanks in advance!

:peace:

I'll quote my experience for you.

Here's my experience on the matter (on a scale 1-10 10 being the best):

P. galindoi/ATL#7  - stone production 7
                                - fruit production 8
P. mexicana/Jalisco - stone production 2
                                - fruit production 9
P. mexicana/A      - stone production 10
                                - fruit production 1
P. tampanensis      - stone production 5
                                - fruit production 9

In other words if I'd want sclerotia only, I'd go with mex/A.
If I want the best over all stone/fruit producer, gotta go with ATL#7.
Tampanensis being my second choice.
With the mex/Jalisco got very few stones but fruited beautifully.

- I have fruited P. galindoi/ATL on regular BRF cakes and straight cased grains (HARVESTED THE STONES BEFORE).
- I have fruited P. mexicana/Jalisco on cased RGS and I have spawned it to
coir as well. IIRC the spawned to coir jar HAS HAD ABSOLUTELY NO STONES IN IT,
and it fruited well. I'm not gonna plug my threads and pictures,
you find them for more/other info in my Journal.
- I have fruited (shitty result, but a few prints) P. mexicana/A spawned
to horse manure/coir/verm/straw bulk AFTER THE STONES HARVESTED.
- And finally fruited P. tampanensis spawning to the same manure/coir/straw/verm
right after I HARVESTED ALL THE GODDAMN STONES from the substrate.

Cheers stonesun!

How on earth did I forget to mention you I my post?  :facepalm3:

Love your work!

Do you have any preferred way of printing these little guys? I forgot to mention this in my original post. I have read that it can be a little difficult to print as the cap tends to dry out before spores are dropped.

Cheers

I just treat them like every other species of mushroom printing-wise.
Take a piece of foil, put caps on it, cover them with 1/2 pint
widemouth jars.
Or lay a sheet of foil in a upside down shoebox in the lid.
Put caps on it and put on the bottom part of shoebox.
These are my printing results:

P. galindoi

P. tampanensis (shoebox)

They do well with both method.
I've cased straight organic rye berries with 50/50+ and
also spawned to horse manure/straw/coir/verm/gypsum bulk with great results.
Shit I even fruit them on BRF cakes right now...

Thanks for the help! what about ATL#7? I've read they don't like coir and do well if cased but not much on bulk horse manure.

The BRF cakes and the cased rye gave me such a great results
that I didn't bother spawn galindoi to bulk coir/manure.
I have some colonized jars and some sterilized bags of manure/coir/straw/verm/gypsum
so I might have to try it, but I suspect it would do alright on it.

Stone Sun,

I have done two sucessful sclerotia grows based on research accumulated from your posts... I have previously used Mexicana, Jalisco... But after reading your reviews this time im going with Mexicana, Chicon; and Galindol, ATL #7. I was hoping you could give me your advice on the best growing medium for these strains. I am knocking up a couple pounds of rye grains. When the time comes should I fruit on the grains themeselves, or spawn to bulk, and if so what?  I really appreciate the advice, thanks in advance! Love, Peace and Respect...

This is an old thread, please let it die.
I have countless P. galindoi grows and a couple of P. mexicana/Chicon Nindo logs.
Check out my signature for more info. They do well on manure/coir based substrates.
