I finished 24 weeks of treatment for HCV 4 weeks ago...
    #21825552 - 06/18/15 09:08 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

AND AND TODAY I GOT A CALL AND WAS TOLD THAT FUCKING VIRUS IS GONE!!!!!!!!

FUCKING A....goddamn,, I knew it was becuase I have felt better than I have since I was a teenager.  Unbelievable energy level, my hormones are functioning and not only that, I have/had severely advanced cirrhosis of the liver from the HCV and drinking, and ALL my liver functions have reached normal and my liver is fucking repairing itself.  In fact the doctor told me he's taken a couple of patients off the transplant list because their livers were working again. :awesomenod:

I'm like on cloud 9 all day and like one of my friends at work said--because last november i was almost dead--he said, goddamn dude you are one lucky fucking bastard.... :awesomenod: :awecid::highfive::rockon:

For years all I could think was 'fuck, this shit is just slowly killing me' as I got sicker and sicker, and felt worse and worse, and everyday was kind of gloom and doom view of the future.  One of the things i remember most is thinking, quite often, that I just wanted to be rid of that obscene tiredness and fatigue.  It got where I was sleeping sometimes 30 hours at a time.

thats amazing starfire. its nice to hear some good news once in awhile.
if i remember correctly, you were using an experimental treatment, right? and HCV is traditionally incurable?

sounds like an a-fucking-plus for the medical community and hepatitis sufferers

That treatment has now gone mainstream, but they are still unsure about whether ribiviran was needed along with it, so they are still studying the protocol.  But I think what it really was, my doctor who is also the head of the SO Cal Liver research foundation and one of the foremost experts on HCB and HCV, he used this study as an excuse to get nearly free treatment to his patients who were in immeadiate need of treatment.

He's cool as hell too, he said he's going to take me down to the Gaslamp district in SD and hangout.  He said, I dont get to drink though, which is fucking A-OK with me.

As far as the drugs, I took Olysio, Sofusbuvir, and Ribiviran for 24 weeks.  The first two are new, direct acting anti-viral drugs, and the other one is used to treat several other diseases, like Congo Hemmoraghic Fever and it used to be used for AIDS. the drugs were actually all approved since last november to use together.

Now, I may be on a long term study, they are going to see how long it takes for the liver to become completely normal, they estimate 5 years, but they aren't sure.  I would have to put up with liver biopsies, but thats cool, he gives me a whopping dose of demerol right after the biopsy for the pain.

actaully, ive been working and posting here a bit in political.  but i was gone in the sense that i would sleep sometimes 30 hours at a stretch when the disease was at its worst, i felt sickeningly miserable, sic to my stomach all the time, my skin was turning yellow and grey, and i had like infections and sores and shit and itching constantly, ad there was this fucking black cloud of gloom hanging over me all the time.
I would have been dead in about 2 or 3 more years.

it ws so bad, i would probably kill myself now before i let myself die of that fucking disease.  And my legs where all swelling up with water where i could barely walk.  Man that was fucked.

:congrats: starfire, that's great to hear.

I'm just starting week 5 of my 12 week treatment with something called 'Viekira pak'.
They got their FDA approval in Dec. 2014.

http://abbvie.mediaroom.com/2014-12-19-AbbVie-Receives-U-S-FDA-Approval-of-VIEKIRA-PAK-Ombitasvir-Paritaprevir-Ritonavir-Tablets-Dasabuvir-Tablets-for-the-Treatment-of-Chronic-Genotype-1-Hepatitis-C

My insurance co. wouldn't cover it, but fortunately,
the pharmaceutical co. is providing it to me at no cost.
They even send a RN to my house once a week, see how I'm doing/feeling.

Got to just keep on keeping on...
:waits: 4 :bliss: . . . :peace:

:highfive:  I've heard about those, they are also direct acting.  Is it workiang?  How do you feel?  I started better by the 2nd week of treatment, by the 4th week, my liver enzymes were normal.  I had to do 24 weeks of treament because I had cirrhosis with a Child-Pugh class score of B, (55% survival proabability for 2 years) at 24 weeks, end of treatment, i was low on a few liver functions felt a lot better.  Now, 5 weeks after the end of treatment all my liver functions are normal, the liver is regenerating according to the doctor, but it is the way I feel that is different.  I can't describe it but its like the dark cloud is gone in my head, and I have so much energy it is crazy.  And no more depressed doom-and-gloom feeling all day.  Even people at work are asking me what happened to me because they said I look really good now.

I got my medicine free also through a study, courtesy of the pharm company.  And my doctor--who is also the head of the hep research foundation, and a big wheel in C and B treatment, is working with Pharms, if patients don't have the money, or insurance wont pay, the worst cases that need it are getting the treatment free.  I think that means f3 ad f4 fibosis cases.

So much for 'greedy pharmaceuticals' eh?  Its the fucking insurance companies that fuck people over. Keep going, and post your results here.  YOU CAN'T BELIEVE what you are going to feel like in a couple of months.

FUCKING A!!!!!  :awesomenod:
