Since I don't speak Malaysian, I have to wonder what the other side of this is. A lot of news stories that come out of Asia get pretty mangled in the process, i.e. be skeptical of anything that starts with "You'll never guess what this  Chinese person did!"

What I'm wondering is, if they're actually just being charged with some kind of obscenity or public nudity thing, like the laws we (US) have with state parks and stuff, but someone mentioned the spirits being angered and them causing the earthquake, and that's what we're hearing.

I dunno, might have to keep an eye on this one.

Like, if you notice, this is buried deep down in the article

"Local indigenous people believe that the tourists' act angered the mountain spirits, who then retaliated with the destructive force of the earthquake."

The only words directly attributed to the Deputy Chief Minister are that it was a "disrespectful act".

And it says they haven't been arrested or detained per se, just barred from leaving the country. I really think it's more to do with the nude pics and being a more conservative country, and the reporters heard some yokels say something dumb about naked people causing earthquakes and wove it in, because otherwise it's a bit of a dull story.
