Man it seems that around here rain triggers lady bugs en masse. Gobbling up all the aphids. Had real bad infestations this year but it seems the lady bugs did a good job. All the rest have been taken out with insecticidal soap.

My saying is "If you plant it to eat it, the insects will want to eat it first". The squirrels tore up 18 poppy plants just to see what was under them since they smelled the fresh soil they were transplanted in. I haven't seen any ladybugs around here in a while. :mad2:

Praying Mantis' are the shiz though.

When they become adults I'll hunt one down and take a pic for you if someone doesn't post one sooner.

The ones we have are at least twice as big as that one, or he/she's just a juvenile. They are great to have around. I'd like to get a video of them having sex when, just afterwards, the female eats the male starting with biting his head off.

I like to use red solo cups as small pots (which I guess is a hack in itself). I found that they nest perfectly in the lid of a wide mouth quart mason jar. I use this to elevate seedlings closer to my grow lights when need be, and it also works great to collect excess water which drains out of the soil, preventing spillage.

Bamboo skewers for staking up erythroxylum novogranatense. Anybody who has grown it knows.

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.
'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response.
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

Do NOT use live bambo, especially if your plants are outside. Gawd, do not use live bamboo! Unless you want to be infested with them. And it's not fun digging up to 5 feet to pull out a massive root only to miss some and have them grow back.

On the bright side, if you need privacy and don't really care if they spread like herpes then set them out and you'll have a foot of growth every night.

My "grow hack" would probably be using clear sandwich baggies to start seeds and clear plastic cups to hold seedlings/cuttings to monitor root growth. But everyone knows those two things.

Lol, yeah. But the bamboo skewers are already dead and cheap as can be. No threat there.

I understand your contempt for bamboo, though. That shit is invasive like none other!

I stumbled across this one while searching on the Shroomery.

Praying Mantis

It's not mine, just using it for educational purposes. I can pull it down if need be.
