Blackstrap Molasses
    #7311101 -

Has anyone utilized Blackstrap Molasses in their growing? It is said to greatly increase resin production and density in flowering plants.

Any ideas on masking the vermin attraction it would present outdoors?

Quote:
Sulphured molasses is made from young green sugar cane and is treated with sulfur dioxide fumes, which act as a preservative, during the sugar extraction process. The sugar cane plant is harvested and stripped of its leaves. Its juice is then extracted from the canes, usually by crushing or mashing. The juice is boiled to concentrate and to promote the crystallization of the sugar. The results of this first boiling and removal of sugar crystal is first molasses, which has the highest sugar content because comparatively little sugar has been extracted from the juice. Second molasses is created from a second boiling and sugar extraction, and has a slight bitter tinge to its taste.
The third boiling of the sugar syrup gives blackstrap molasses. The majority of sucrose from the original juice has been crystallized but blackstrap molasses is still mostly sugar by calories; however, unlike refined sugars, it contains significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. Blackstrap molasses is a source of calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. One tablespoon provides up to 20 percent of the daily value of each of those nutrients. Blackstrap is often sold as a health supplement, as well as being used in the manufacture of cattle feed, and for other industrial uses.

molasses addition.

most expensive micronutrient blends sold as "plant booster" etc, are usually just overpriced bottles of blackstrap molasses!

nutrient information on a random jar of blackstrap;
Nutritional Information and Nutrition Facts:
Serving Size: 1Tbsp. (21g).
Servings per Container: About 24.
Amount Per Serving: Calories - 60;

Percentage Daily Values;

Fat - 0g, 0%;
Sodium - 65mg. 3%;
Potassium - 800 mg. 23%;
Total Carbohydrates - 13g, 4%;
Sugars - 12g, - soil organisms will love this
Protein - 1g,
Calcium - 2%; Iron 10%;
Magnesium 15%;

Water plants thoroughly with solution once every 7-14 days in spring and summer, every 14-30 days in fall and winter. Indoors, use 1/2 teaspoon per quart (1 teaspoon per gallon); outdoors, 1 teaspoon per quart (4 teaspoons per gallon). 32 fluid ounces (946ml). Contains 3.0% Water Soluble Nitrogen, 1.0% Available Phosphate, 5.0% Soluble Potash
NPK
3-1-5

it also works great as a foliar feeding/antibug spray,

mix 1tsp molasses
1 tsp light bloom nutrients (around 0-3-1)
to 1 gal of water

recipe for antibug meltdown
1tsp citrus oils
1 gallon compost tea
1 tsp molasses

the orange oils eat away at the bugs exoskeleton, weakening it.
the living organisms in the compost tea start to feed on the weakened bugs, getting stronger as they consume molasses nutrients! eventually the bugs will be devoured by nature, and this spray is harmless to all of the plants i have tried it on.

Molasses is a great micronutrient blend, as well as providing some sturdy amounts of macronutrients for plants. Molasses contributes to a healthy soil life, with healthy and strong microorganisms.

Thank you. Very useful info there.

I'm more worried about black bear. I was thinking they might treat it as an underground honeycomb :smile: I'll be mixing it with some FoxFarm Big Bloom. The guano should make it unappealing enough.

good stuff.

Get the un-sulphured type of black strap molasses if you can.

Provides lots of carbs to help fuel mad growth. Works amazing in a home brewed organic tea. Shit will get your mycro-beasties boomin like crazy.

1 tbsp. to a gallon of water is what i use. you can go up to 2 though.

Hmmm. I think I got sulphured, I don't know...it's in the mail from GreenSense. Will this make a huge difference?

Someone told me yield increases by 20%, any truth in it?

saying things like "it will make your yeild increse by 20%" is just b.s.

It just works well because its got a nice amount of K in there which is needed towards the end of flowering as well as those carbs that will help push the plant to use the last bit of nutes that are present. Also helps convert N into a more usable form. Which is good cause you want your N to be running out before you harvest.

Some people use it all the time in small amounts in teas. Others use it only for flushing the plant at the end of the flowering cycle. Others, like myself, use it for both.

what you got will work fine. If ya ever get anymore id get the unsulphured kind.

good luck and happy growing. :smile:

blackstrap molasses works by providing a good source of carbon to your plant which they use to create turpins (not sure if thats the exact word) and resins,

i have not tried it for my self yet but im gonna start growing in a few months and plan to use it,

peace out Dm

towards the end of the plants production cycle, it has spent most of its carbs and giving it more increases yield. The carbs also feed beneficial micro-organisms in the soil and compost tea which amongst other things
microorganisms poop acid which is used by the plant to absorb nutrients.
