JESUS!
Ok, so I've got 4 lil' peyotes, and one of them has been *very* wrinkly the past month or so.
I treat them all the same, so it seems odd. But I hoped if I just left it, gave it not too much water, it would recover.
Today i touch it, it's not holding its soil at all. I pulled it out, and it looks very bad. The worst?
GODDAMN WHITE LIL' BUG THINGS ON THE ROOTS! They look like really tiny maggots, but i donno wtf they are :\
What could they be? Pics incoming, but the white things are impossible to photograph.

maybe fungus gnat larvae. they tend to live in the soil and love new root shoots. wash the root under running water and replace the soil ASAP.
hope that is somewhat helpful.

Thanks, gonna get to that immediately. Here's the best pic I have of it:

I hope it's ok
While I'm takin pics anyway, most of my peyote are a bit more white than most people's seem to be, here's a sample(looks a bit more white of course due to the flash):

Is that anything I can help with, or should be concerned about? I'm growing them under a bright CFL, I kinda figured that might be the cause.

start by changing th soil. that soil, and i say this with all due respect, sucks. too many sticks and does not have enough perlite and porous material.
i learned over the years, and through many lost lophs, that soil will either make or break your grow.
now my philosophy is the lighter the mix, the better.

It might look a little bit like this, this loph was a gift from a friend, one of the best dam gifts i ever got

He was gifted them by his friends widowed wife, if you all follow me.
It was root bound in a small bonsai pot with old soil, when I got it, now its looking a lot better now, and will grow out those few cuts etc. its about 30 years old and my friend kept another one that was 60 years old, will take some pictures next time I go around.
some other pictures of my babies

Nice projectzero! You were very lucky to be gifted with that.
@Ubitsa: It doesn't look good but I can't see what the white pests are. Do they look like this at all?

that's the amazing things about some of the rare plants we grow, because they are so rare, people will look after them, and to think that when we are all dead and become good fertilizer ourselves, part of who we are will stay with these plants.
people say Bonsai is a living art, but its in everything we grow and try and grow, and if each owner has that same idea then they will go on to live a very long time.
but I would like to think a part of me will stay with my bonsai when I'm gone, might have to plant them in thew ground. can't trust anyone

did you get that thing already calloused? it certainly looks so.
next step would be some soil for rooting purposes.

I didn't. The person ensuring its phytosanitary quality did so. I've got the clay pot and soil; I'm just waiting on a drill so that water can pass through.

It's to ensure foreign pests/organisms aren't coming along for the ride. They do this for individuals and for organizations like botanical gardens; it just costs money (about $15).
To quote the seller about this plant's "pedigree", "Father plants are diffusa cv."KOIKE" or Jourdaniana and mother plants are william or diffusa or fricii." Is this truly possible? I'm just thinking it's for advertisement's sake.

if i had to say i would label it Lophophora diffusa var. koehresii but who the hell knows. those overseas ssellers put all different names on there stuff to charge a premium.
visit the Cactus Conservation Institute for more on taxonomy information.
