we both marched into this discussion with this agreement.

you were kinda mean with people trying to hash one out tho.

seems like since you WANT one you could be a bit more encouraging of the flow, right?

That's not how things get done, though.  It's easy for a few guys to solve all of the worlds problems alone in a room.  It's a lot tougher when reality comes into the picture.  I'm one of the people in this thread serving as that reality check.

at least you admit you want all political speech limited.

For possibly the 100th time, it's political spending that should be limited.  Why do Wooof and I have to keep correcting people on this?

I do not believe you have ever corrected anybody on anything.  You have incorrected them with your fascist anti free speech nonsense over and over again

You don't believe money in politics corrupts Government?!?!?

Do you know who is rich as fuck?  The Sulzbergers and the Weinsteins and Oprah Winfrey.  When you tell them to shut the fuck up I'll pay attention to you.  But only to say that is wrong as well.  You are wrong on everything regarding this issue.

as i've said to you in other places.

you should use your gift for good instead of evil.

and in this case that would be this

i propose

1) you know what he is saying

2) you know how to make what he is saying more viable

and

3) instead of advancing his skill with yours, you are instead using your skil to knock him down instead of make what he has stronger.

which i propose is

4) something you COULD do... but you would rather play cat and mouse with him.

how far off am i?

The owners of the corporations have the ability to put into power the most powerful person in that corporation and when it comes to a media/press type company these people are selected carefully in order to support an ideological perspective.

Yes, the owners of the largest media companies exert tremendous influence on what is covered politically and how it is covered.

Another reason why our media companies should not be controlled by large, global multi nationals.

haliburton and lockheed martin seemed to have succeeded at this

i dont think it even needs to be THOSE companies as long as they will get significant help, it could be any company.

which is one reason keeping names limited and ideas free helps.

it forces politicians to align with specific ideals which they can be critiqued for in the future.

What media company are you referring to?  It isn't the NY Times or the Trib.

I have no idea who you are talking about.  Do you mean Murdock?  He most certainly does not control most of our media.  I would suggest you stop watching TV news altogether.  It is for retards.  So is Jon Stewart and Bill Maher.

For instance Comcast now owns NBC which was previously owned by General Electric.

CBS Corporation is controlled by Sumner Redstone through National Amusements,

Newscorp owns properties like Fox, New York Post and the Wall Street Journal

Amazon effectively owns the Washington Post.

I would suggest that giving "advice" to people you've never met, have no flipping idea about in terms of education or background is a rather silly thing to do.

If you want to understand how our world works, you need to pay attention to how our most important corporations communicate.  Getting the news is only one level in terms of what you can learn.  Understanding how global power is organized and coordinated is another.

I'm not fighting a D vs. R political battle.  I grew out of that silly game a long time ago.

Pretty far off, actually...but not completely.

First, if I knew how to fix his test to be workable, I would help him do that.  I truly would love a solution.

Having said the above, I've tried time and time again to show Fal the myriad ways that his test can be bypassed by the rich and used against the poor.  He just doesn't seem to want to see that, however.

And it really does come down to my original position:  I cannot support gutting the First Amendment unless/until a solid, workable plan has been articulated which accomplishes the goals of finance reform and protect the individual right to free speech.

thats why i say if we restrict ONLY illuding to a specific person.

it goes a long ways without actually stepping on free speech too much.

then the commercials can say "right to life is something we should all get behind"

but we cant say "mit romney will close down all abortion clinics in the country and reverse row vs wade"

except in specific ways.

romney can have his website. so can bill clinton.

but they can only spend xyz dollars on ads. and other people cant put their names in THEIR ads. for or against a name... ISSUES ARE FAIR GAME

it strongarms it into being a bit more civil anyhow

BY NO MEANS DO I BELIEVE THIS IS A PERFECT SOLUTION. just steps ahead of where we are.

this would have stopped the swiftboat non-sense, not that old dead eyes would make a good president just unfounded slander probably shouldnt have that much of an impact on an election.

The way to bring about the needed reforms to our political process is to force more transparency on Politicians and those that fund their campaigns.  If we passed some very teethy campaign finance sunshine laws that forced politicians, once a year. to answer questions, under oath, about any agreements made or understood between the and those that contribute to their campaigns and then force the Board of Directors of any legal entity that contributes to these campaigns to do the same, then I think we would flush 90% of the nonsense out of the system immediately.

I have no problem at all with people and companies contributing money to campaigns.  What I want is full disclosure on what they're paying for with real jail time consequences for avoiding telling the truth and juicy whistelblower rewards to root out the liars.

They are corporations … legal entities … Corporations, for the most part, exist to generate profits.  It's the ownership of these corporations that needs far more examination.  This paper, generated by a Swiss University, give the first real scientific explanation for who really owns what on this planet.  The likelihood that there really is a tiny, tiny group of humans at the top of the Wealth Class that coordinates not just the media, but global policy on many levels is very real.

Scary, I guess, is a relative term.  If it doesn't bother you that a tiny, tiny fraction of humans have the ability to exert tremendous influence and control on most of the corporations that own/control virtually all of the resources on this planet, then more power to you.

I believe that the more diversified ownership and power is, the better. I believe that the concentration of power and wealth into fewer and fewer hands on this planet is the greatest threat we face to freedom and progress as a species.
