i don't think you understand what a file is. at least not in a digital context

you are basically implying that no digital file counts? we can only keep words on paper?

cause even one mp4 song or whatever is multiple pieces of data compressed into one chunk. the concept is exactly the same for a .zip file, or a truecrypt file

Let's not pick this apart. It's supposed to be fun.

1 file. I really mean 1 piece of media.
Using compression as a way to save more files is skirting the idea but I don't care its just taking away from your answer.

If you could save one intellectual work of media for humanity what would it be? That's the real question here.

A zip file is cheating, and a cop out, and you know that as well as I do.

I know how digital contents work, for the sake of the thread, you guys are cheating.

You're wishing for more wishes from the genie lamp. That shit don't fly.

Thank you.

Not to Mention the fact that you need a program to decompress the zip file, and you can't save both the program and the file.

you need a program to play any sort of music, text document, video, whatever. so thats a moot point.

BUT like you said... this thread is supposed to be fun and i dont wanna be a dick and derail it. im not gonna read into it any more than that

i would choose a calculator, personally.

You gonna decompress the internet from its .rar format with a calculator.

Lets revise this shit thread.

The internet is being erased by the government! What's on your computer that will be saved?

My case, 4.9 TB of movies and (old) games, 90 gigs of music and 33 gigs of pictures, HTML, tar, rar, zip, DMG and EXE's

A single clip encompassing all of my music, movies, tv shows and porn.

There is not a single piece of media worth saving. No matter what it is, you are going to eventually get so bored and tired of it, you won't want to ever use it again after a certain point. If I can't compile some variety into a single video, then what is the point. Just let them take it all.

And if I can't have some mix of media on the same file, then movies and tv shows are out. They use several "files of media" all on their own.

i'll believe that when you post a timestamped link or pic from speedtest.net

if you legitimately can upload or download at 100 megabits per second, ill give you +5. just because.

i dont think you can do either though. up for the challenge?

I have like... 6 computers in the house, not to mention the laptops, and wireless devices, and gaming consoles that are on the wifi slowing down my speed.

I'll take a picture of my Verizon plan when I get a chance, if you want to see my interwebs speeds that bad.

http://www.verizon.com/home/fios-fastest-internet/

It's not even that expensive, either.
