It sounds to my mom's sister's frog like there is too much water in the cakes. He says that it is most likely caused from overwatering the casing layer (in your case the manure/vermiculite). He recommends that perhaps you should attempt to use a different casing tek (one more popular, i.e. just vermiculite or ryche's tek). If you chill out with the watering chances are you can kiss your fat asses goodbye and have normal basidiomycetes.

Well sounds like too much water and CO2. More air exchanges (carefully, but remember that now that the cake is muture it should be pretty contaminate resistant) and squeeze out the water untill you only get a drop or 2 from the casing soil. As for your other question, here's my recipe for casing mixture and it works GREAT... colonizes quick and produces several strong flushes.

2 cups vermiculite
2 cups peat moss
3/4 to 1 cup cooked bird parakeet birdseed
1/4 cup brown rice flour
approx. 1 1/2 cups water

mix thuroughly in one container then get another container you can pasturize the soil in and squeeze out any excess water untill you only get a drop or 2 from the mix and put in the pasturizing dish. do that with the whole mess and pasturize at about 180f for about an hour... works like a charm BUT you MUST give this casing mix alot of air exchanges (6 to 8 a day) or you'll get overlay in a hurry becuase it's a nutritious mix. Once pins get about 1/2 inch tall cut the air exchanges down to 2 to 4 a day so they can fatten up. Then once they're about an inch to and inch 'n a half start fanning the mix 6 to 8 times a day again untill they're mature. As Lizard King has shown us air exchange is not something to neglect...

Nutrition in the casing is asking for trouble. I would not advise it. Why are people starting to try this so much lately?

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
