IRC can be pretty shitty if you're not used to it. I hated using it my first few days. After you use it for about 2 to 3 days it becomes second nature. You can do all kinds of things with IRC that you can't do with the boards. You can have real time convos, kick/ban people, make your own private channels, invite people to your private channels, put passwords on private channels, etc. Hell, you guys could even send each other videos of the goatse/hello.jpg man in action.
