Perlite Problems
    #2110550 - 11/16/03 12:36 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Yes, I know. I'm sure this has been covered many times before...

So anyway, I have my PMP set up, with two bubble wands under about three inches of perlite with two inches of standing water. I've got two casings in the terrarium.

My problem is, when I go to check on the terrarium there is no moisture on the sides or anything. I've been spraying the sides, but I thought the whole point of perlite was so I didn't have to spray? If anyone knows how I could solve this problem that would be very nice.

By the way, one of my casings is showing hyphal knots but I think I birthed the other one way too early. It's probably only 30% colonized. Any ideas on what I should do with that? They've both been cased for like two days.

And thanks for all your help, as always.

Get rid of the standing water and you'll have all the humidity you need.

Your pod is fine. Sometimes it has taken days for moisture to build up on my pod esp if it was just put together. The new water you added was probably cold. When it is the whole chamber is cooler then the air outside the chamber and it takes a while for moisture to build up on the sides.

If you have knots on the casing they seem to be liking it.

Thanks for all the help.

As a side note, the perlite on the top is very damp. Should I add another bag on top of the damp perlite so it can wick more moisture into the air? Or should I just leave it alone?

Thanks again.

yep, respect the 1 water layer for 4 perlite layer +/-

about the uncolonized cake, it's not a good idea keeping it inside the terranium, contams will attack it for sure. The best you can do is to take advantage of the colonized part of the cake by using it to colonize grain substracts or develop some agar, honey or whatever tek

 peace
