Perlite Problem?

Hiya folks! First time grower here...
Briefly: I have 1 3/4" of dry, sterilized perlite in my terrarium with a little over a 1/4" of distilled water (with a smidge of hydrogen peroxide) at the bottom. And yet my humidity level is only at 75 - 80%. How do I boost the humidity? Do I have enough water in there or should I add more? My cakes are not birthed yet so there's no rush.

Hi there!
Here's what's worked for me. I added about 5cm of perlite and 2.5 cm of water with a little H202. The containers I use are pretty big, so I have a bubbler stone too.
I think using 2 inches of perlite with water at a 2:1 ratio should to the trick though.

basically you just want your perlite damp.
you can mist the sides.....and put in a air bubbler and it will help you get more humidity.
Are you sure you have a good humidity gauge ?
If you need more help....feel free to pm me....everyone else does....lolzz
good luck!

So, what you're saying is that for every inch of perlite there should be .5" of water, right? So if I have 2" of perlite, the water level should be at 1"? Do you find you have problems with suspended water droplets/condensation with your set-up?

What you said about the humidity guage worries me. I purchased mine from the pet store - it's a reptile guage. They told me they were v. accurate. Are there better ones out there?

2:1 ratio, yes. At first I tried the ratios I saw in the shroomery FAQ, but that only gave my +-85 humidity. So I upped the perlite and water. The bubbler stone I have helps with air exchange too though.
I haven't had any problems with condensation yet. The walls of my containers are wet but the only real droplets I see are on the inside of the actual casing trays.
My hygrometer reads 92-96. It's a digital one and I'm not 100% sure of it's accuracy, but I have shrooms growing so...
Hope that helped.
