First Time Problems - Growing from Sides Only?!

Hi,

I started my first growkit (Freshmushrooms) 3 weeks ago, kept in a warm light area (no direct sunlight), have kept the bag closed and misted the sides every other day.

Since then I have noticed growth on the sides but not the top.

The instructions say to open the bag after they start pinning.....

Any advice on what I should do next and how to get them to grow on the top would be really appreciated! :thumbup:

Your first mistake was buying a grow kit. Grow kits are hot piles of garbage, do everything yourself. Follow some of the bulk TEKS and grain spawn TEKS. Or the extremely simple PF tek.

Second mistake is that the pins are on the bottom due to a few factors. One being that the bottom of your box is much more desirable for the mushrooms. That is not good. Another thing to mention is that pins also form partially from light, so the sides are exposed.

Good luck, you could possibly make that into a cake, put it under tinfoil and place it in a shotgun fruiting chamber with perlite and a little water. Put it on top of the perlite and spray it 4 times a day. Good luck man, I hope you get the gold.

Those euro monkeys dont know how to grow.

Mist the surface were u have lil beads of water on top, let it evap mostly n repeat.

Take prints n practice with the pf tek.

That looks like an either over colonized block or bacterial, next flush layer 2cm of coir over top n tuck in the sides.

The resoun your having side pins is cause bad surface conditions lil beads of water =:amanita2:

Yea mist the surface mushrooms dont grow were its dry, crack the bag dont open it all the way unless your home n know your not gonna neglect it, cubes can grow just fkne in hi co2 environments.

Your flush is already started so you'll need to wait for new pins but after harvest pour a cup of water on it let it soak over night pour it out and mist it remember lil beads of water, let them evap about 70% n mist again and you'll have a world of difference if you can get verm press some into the surface like in the pf tek.

That looks like something you can buy from the store, Tupperware, and a clear plastic bag :hehehe:

Whenever I get side pins is because I didn't line my substrate with a thick black garbage bag, even just that can still trigger side pins. Mushrooms will grow toward certain light so that's your problem. It can be a bitch to avoid side pinning, just happens. They will grow on top don't worry. Next time, use electrical tape around the sides up until the substrate depth ends and you can also line your substrate in a thick black plastic bag. Try keeping a light above the grow, it also doesn't have to be too bright. There is a certain amount of light mushrooms can take, look it up on here.
