i need a pic of a yellow morel plate please

does anyone have a pic of a plate of morcella esculenta? i have started some, but the spores also contained sucrose and chloramphenicol (an anti-bacterial agent) i have germntaion i think, but it doesnt look familuar... and i have seen many types of mycilium, and even more contams lol and this doesnt look like anything ive seen... just need to check to see what this is, before wasting my time growing it out.

I don't have a pic to share, but I can tell you that the morel mycelium from various species does indeed look unlike anything else. It's a bit wispy, fast growing. . .it will look quite a bit different after it's completely colonized a plate for awhile.

starts off pale and thin like this. You can barely see it.


my brother got me to keep this as "art"
oh yeah those things that look like contams are just contams.

It will thicken up to to a dense mat and become brown as it dries out.

thx both of you. looks like my plates are good im just a bit paranoid, i havent wanted a species this bad in a long time, im dieing to try the indoor morel tek........

yes, its super fast to start, then once it reaches the outer edge, it thickens to a thick mat, mine also form small mounds in time.
It does have a cobweb look to start out.

dont do too many transfers on, thoug. stmets says that after 10 transfers, it loses the ability to for sclerotia meaning that it wont fruit. if you plan or trying the grow a few times i recommend creating slants of the original plates. i just started my augusticept plates today. i plan on using this tek : http://www.mushroompeople.com/cat2000/morel.html

was it worth all the trouble, btw? Growing a couple morels, but having to get so many things for the substrate?

Personally, i love morels, and would like to try growing them some time, but is it worth it to continue growing them ?

Yes,because i learn something new.Two morels is not that impressive,it's the quest for knowledge i seek.I have friends who pick many pounds each spring,yet they don't know anything about them.It's probally not worth it but i continue.

Morel on agar is quite interesting. It turns brown and is very fuzzy in apearence. It also forms little minnisclerotia.

It's funny, Noone sees that its toothpicks holding up those morels :wink:. I think that picture has been posted before. And Raadt pointed it out. Correct me if i'm wrong.
