Agreed. Society is really a collection of backward rules that have accumulated over time. I find that the idea of shaving is usually linked with youth in our civilization. Our society pushes to get closer to a more crazier version of Itself. Where in it becomes obsessed with youth and beauty.

Let us not forget that the whole 'perfect' human image that is perpetuated in the media are really just superficial creations designed to take money from people, to keep them chasing perfection.

I don't understand how hair represents old age in any way.
Facial hair makes a guy much more attractive and the bush in the nether region is just as nice.

I'm 42 years old and I got grey in my hair and beard. Shaving doesnt at all make me look like a kid, it makes my face not itch and makes me look tidy, just like not having uncut long hair anymore.

I feel better and get treated better for not having an untrimmed beard and long hair.

Have you ever hear the term "going with the flow". I think this applies to this situation. Personally, I have to shave because it's part of my company's dress code. Otherwise, I would probably still shave though. I don't think it's as deep as you are thinking.
