I could give a fuck about the marketing. I like as many GMOs and chemicals as possible in my food. Still, Chipotle is not bad from time to time when I feel like paying extra money for someone to do what I could do at home.

I like the expression "it's not bad" because that denotes that it's also not good

I can get damned good food for the price of chipotle, all fresh and cooked in
house and I can get pretty good for a lot less if all I want is burritos and
tacos and the typical chipotle fare

I live in rural Ohio. We don't have real Mexicans unless I can find an abuela in a tobacco field to cook for me.

Don't know about rural Ohio, but there are some phenomenal taco trucks throughout Ohio.

Cleveland, Columbus, Bowling Green, Sandusky maybe. I haven't seen any such taco trucks in southwest Ohio near Cincinnati.

I'm being a little disingenuous though, there's a really nice Mexican market about 30 minutes from me where you could make your own Chipotle for 10x less at 10x greater quality. It's in a suburban area 10 minutes outside Cincinnati. There must be some sort of Mexican population.

So where have the protests been "for decades"?

Or maybe the race pimps have just recently promoted this "hands up, don't shoot" nonsense since the Micheal Brown case, and the morons have fallen for it hook, line, and sinker.

since the 1970 omnibus crime bill, which was largely passed due to stirred fears regarding the civil rights movements in addition to the rise of the 60's counterculture, as well as the inception of the drug war in 1972 and its exponential ramping-up through the present administration, and the start of the terror war in 2001, there has always been outrage towards the increasing power that street cops are being given from both within and outside of government and community circles. infamous LAPD chief daryl gates, whose career ironically took off after devising the concept of SWAT teams in response to the 1965 watts riots (among a few other incidents), resigned in the wake of his policies that brutalized black communities in pursuit of enforcing drug laws and disrupting gang activity, and the subsequent riots that followed the acquittal of the officers involved in the rodney king beating. but gates' legacy endured. joe domanick of john jay college elaborates:

Quote:
Even after Gates left the department, his imprimatur lingered. His successors spectacularly failed to tame the paramilitary culture that had ossified under Gates. The rank and file was in revolt, violent crime remained horribly high, and many within the department still believed that Rodney King deserved what he got and that Daryl Gates didn't.

It took an enormous effort to undue that mind-set. The first step was the Christopher Commission, a citizens group appointed by [LA Mayor] Bradley to examine the structure and operation of the Police Department in the wake of the King beating.

Under the chairmanship of attorney Warren Christopher, the group documented a pervasive pattern of excessive force by officers and the department's failure to rein it in. It recommended tough new standards of accountability.

In 2000, facing a lawsuit that would have been difficult to defend, the city entered into a consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice that required sweeping reforms. The decree came in the wake of revelations that officers in the department's Rampart Division had engaged in a pattern of frame-ups, beatings and shootings by police officers.

In 2002, Mayor James Hahn hired reformer William J. Bratton as chief, driving a final stake through the heart of the culture Gates had embraced. It took eight years of hard work by Bratton, prodding from reform organizations such as the Advancement Project and the hiring of a diverse new police force to erase Gate's legacy and give the LAPD back to the people of Los Angeles.

and this is just one (famous) example that points to the fact that people have been pissed off about the way community police work has been done for a long time now. and they have been more than vocal about it. and with the ongoing terror war, the issue has expanded beyond minority communities into the lives of every american within the laws' reach. are there agitators stirring the pot along racial lines with these recent incidents? certainly. but that doesn't mean that the underlying issues, which affect nearly everyone now, don't exist. as i've surely said on here before, this issue is much larger than race, so to try to diminish it on the grounds of a few spurious claims by racial demagogues is simply impossible.

Those employees were obviously in fear for their lives and made a point to show their hands so as to not get shot and then tazed as proper protocol would dictate.

"the issue has expanded beyond minority communities into the lives of every american within the laws' reach"

I think many Americans might agree with the fact that law enforcement has expanded its power in recent years, but that doesn't make them side with the "protesters" either, most people don't like going through the hassle of airport security and that's their biggest problem with an overzealous law enforcement, other than that facet they don't have encounters with the police.

for one thing qman, as i've stated, this has been going on for decades rather than "recent years" as you seem to believe. moreover, you're conflating the issue of the appropriateness and perhaps effectiveness of airport security measures with the issue of criminal police methodologies via bad, and arguably unconstitutional, policy. the drug war alone has pretty much done away with the exclusionary rule, and the terror war has done away with habeas corpus in a broader, unprecedented range of circumstances. many people have taken notice of these deeply troubling trends for a long time now.

nobody in their right mind would side with gangs of rioters, looters and the groups who whip them into frenzies. but again, there are deeply rooted, underlying systemic issues that give rise to the conditions under which they operate that all citizens should be aware of. you can't just neatly file this under "poor, uneducated, angry blacks destroying their own neighborhoods because kill whitey". or rather, you can, but your thinking would be quite wrong: see reasons above.

I thought chipotle was a flavour, I didn't know when you guys mentioned chipotle multiple times around here that you meant a restaurant.

It sounds like shit.

also, i'll add that i disagree with joe domanick's claim that the paramilitary mindset has been undone in the LAPD or any police department. see recent incidents for evidence that contradicts domanick's claim. i would argue that the police are even worse than they were.

oh, and i had chipotle for lunch. it was delicious.

it's really not that bad. you can eat semi-healthy there. i'm a texan and therefore a tex-mex snob and i like it just fine. i've had better, but it's not bad. at least here it isn't.

Chipotle is actually a jalapeno pepper marinated in adobo sauce, and it's fucking delicious.  They did name a mediocre restaurant chain after it, though, and they do sell lukewarm mediocre burritos and tacos.  The guacamole is pretty good, and the chips are excellent.  Overpriced for the quality, for sure, but okay.

i have one right by where i live. i've definitely had better, but if i want tex-mex and don't want to be a complete pig, i can get a burrito bowl there that satisfies me. it is expensive though. and their guac is good.

best place around here (DFW) is a little spot in north oak cliff called cafe vera cruz. they serve "aztec-mex". not terribly expensive, but the atmosphere is great for dates and menu is an interesting twist on the tex-mex concept. hard to describe, but unbeatable in my opinion.

Sounds pretty good.  I have yet to find a Mexican restaurant out here (NE) yet, let alone an authentic, good-quality one.  I need to cook more Mexican food; I haven't done anything but tacos in a long time.
