sunset_mission said: Yeah in the end the flaw in his approach was that all he came off as was a very vocal and aggressive fool, I agree with you. It did however convey that he was genuinely opposed to the police's supposed methods and obviously disappointed that who he perceives to be on the same side and supposedly performing similar duties (protecting) failed to do that apparently and his outburst certainly made others around him aware of this.
I do agree that the marine was sincere in his perception (justified or not) that the cops had been behaving like violent pigs, definitely!

oh boo hoo
someone always has to find something to bitch about. keep breaking it down to make yourself feel like the bigger man. do you guys have the balls to do what he did? i highly doubt it. he's justified in being angry. those cops are not justified in anything theyre doing in NYC. they arent protecting or serving the citizens. theyre more interested in the big $$$ coming from the higher ups who are paying them to beat the fuck out people.
so keep bitching and breaking shit down to make you all feel better about yourselves.
im honestly surprised anyone is trying to tear this guy down.
FUCK the NYPD

sunset_mission said: I don't know, perhaps from the fact he's in Marine attire. This is what the info under the YouTube video says about him:
Quote:
United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas from Roosevelt, NY went toe to toe with the New York Police Department. An activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement, Thomas voiced his opinions of the NYPD police brutality that had and has been plaguing the #OWS movement.
Thomas is a 24-year-old Marine Veteran (2 tours in Iraq), he currently plays amateur football and is in college.
Thomas comes from a long line of people who sacrifice for their country: Mother, Army Veteran (Iraq), Step father, Army, active duty (Afghanistan), Grand father, Air Force veteran (Vietnam), Great Grand Father Navy veteran (World War II).
But I feel you though, we can never be too sure that people are who they say they are. This guy can be a reptilian for all we know. He's obviously not a Marine, that's for one thing.
Dressing up like a marine doesn't make you one, however the rest of it sounds legit

Me too. For one thing, I hope I can control my anger a bit better than he did. I also don't think he did contribute anything to the debate.

That's not what this is about.

I'm not tearing him down, I'm pointing out that this was an occurrence in which there was no winner, so the thread title was inappropriate. I'm also pointing out that if someone yells very loudly those things you like to hear, that doesn't mean he's actually right. I'm advocating critical thinking instead of sheepling along with the rest of the herd.
In short, you're missing the point of this debate entirely.

Would making several puppet accounts to flood the Shroomery Pub with inaccurate thread titles restore your passion in life and make things right again between us?

FUCK the NYPD
If I was in his position (dedicating a portion of my life to protecting and serving the people through combat only to witness my 'comrades' battering the very people I went through all that just to protect) I'd certainly feel the same way; as for getting belligerent the way he did, that's not my style. If he remained calm in his address to them he could have definitely accomplished much more, and perhaps might've garnered support as well as some sort of response from the NYPD.
It's also not a secret that money governs and dictates the actions of plenty of pawns within the system. For instance, from what I understand most (if not all) drug busts are planned at a crucial point when the profit they'd be seizing from the target is at its max. Much of the NYPD prioritizes filling their quotas moreso than their actual sworn duty.
Nobody's trying to tear this marine down, however.

what a dilemma for conservatives.
Do I defend the marine, the police, or wall street?
