Peat sucks. I've used coir alone and with poo. Hpoo/verm really gives me the best results. I have noted that hpoo from horses that are not fed grain seems better

Re: Liquid spawn: Slurry In a Hurry Spawn: Without the spawn [Re: azur]
    #21073869 -

my first two trials yielded as so:

1) 1 pint spawn to 10 quarts substrate=19 grams dry
2) 1 pint spawn to 10 quarts substrate=19 grams dry
3) 1 quart spawn to 10 quarts substrate=46 grams dry

my 1 quart grain slurry tub is flushing on a 2nd flush. i tossed the two pint slurry tubs to make room for new material. ill probably chunk the 1 quart slurry tub after 2nd to make room for some future stuff as well.

Here is experiment number 3: This is day 10. Colonization was day 3 and fruiting was induced on day 4. This tub is not cased.

TLY 7: UnCased: 2 Quarts Grain Spawn Slurry: 9 Quarts Substrate:

FULL PROCEDURE: GRAIN WAS PREPPED USING FOOMAN'S GRAIN TEK IN 2 HOURS

MADE 40 QUARTS WBS GRAIN JARS FROM 1 PF JAR SLURRY (THAI CLONE FOR A TEST RUN BELOW)

THAI LIPA YAI (TEST CLONE UNCASED TUB):
TUB 1 YIELD: TOTAL 450g 17.9 oz
1st: 240 grams 8.5 oz
2nd: 70 grams 2.5oz
3rd: 59g 2oz
4th: 81g 2.9oz

MIXED UP 1 SMALL BRICKS COIR, 2 QUARTS VERM, 1 CUP GYPSUM, 5 QUARTS WATER

EXPANDED THE COIR WITH HOT WATER

DUMPED IN THE DRY VERM AND MIXED IT ALL UP WITH THE COIR. THEN POURED THE GYPSUM THAT WAS MIXED IN WITH 4 CUPS OF THE WARM WATER ON TOP OF THE VERM COIR MIX. THEN MIXED IT ALL UP.

PUT IT IN TURKEY TINS IN THE OVEN FOR 2.5 HOURS. INNER CORE TEMP WAS BROUGHT TO 170 THEN SET FOR 2 HOURS AT THAT TEMP.

ONCE COOL, FLIPPED THE TURKEY TIN UPSIDE DOWN IN MY PRE LINED TUB.
I TOOK A WIDE MOUTH QUART JAR THAT I RETROFITTED A BLADE ASSEMBLY TO THE LID. I PRESSURE COOKED 3/4 QUART OF WATER AND THE BLADE ASSEMBLY. ONCE COOL, I USED A SHMUVBOX FOR CLEAN WORK AND TOOK THE LID OFF 1 COLONIZED QUART. I POURED HALF OF THE 3/4TH QUART OF WATER INTO THAT COLONIZED QUART AND QUICKLY PUT THE METAL BLADE ON IT. I THEN USED A DRILL BIT ON THE END OF THE BLENDER TO BLEND UP THE JAR. I THEN DID THE SAME THING ON THE 2ND COLONIZED QUART OF GRAIN. I POURED THE REST OF THE WATER INTO THE 2ND QUART, THEN PUT THE SAME LID ON THE 2ND QUART JAR. THEN BLENDED IT WITH THE DRILL BIT. I POURED IT ALL INTO THE SUBSTRATE AND MIXED IT IN THOROUGHLY WITH THE PASTEURIZED SUBSTRATE WITH GLOVES ON.(I DIDN'T TAKE PICS SO IM SUBSTITUTING SOME I HAVE THAT ILLUSTRATE THIS)

BLEND WASN'T QUITE THIS SOUPY BUT DID LOOK SOMEWHAT LIKE THIS.

THE QUART LID IS LIKE THIS.

ILL UPDATE THIS POST AS IT HAPPENS.

here is a slurry tub with 1 pf cake per 12 quarts volume of substrate. far too low of spawn ratio. but it did shoot out some monsters. i wasn't able to tend to it for a week with family in town.
its probably an oz dry or more. it still has a few fruits maturing. but it was 1 pf cake. it took an extremely long time to colonize this time. thats why im running all these tests. right now i think the 2 quart slurry is right where i want it. i don't think it will yield more than 2-4z dry though. i also had to switch the setup halfway through this trial. so i didn't get to tend to it as i would have liked to. ill be attempting some tubs in the future with casings.

oh lol i posted it in the wrong thread that was why. eh, the first few times i did it, the sub did great. but i was also using hpoo with supercake formula in the substrate. this was purely coir/verm. im running all the new test on coir/verm only just to see side by side results after i get the recipe down. if the 2 quart tub works good with decent yield, ill probably do about 10 test tubs. i also will do 5 cased, 5 uncased. so far it met one of my goals, being able to colonize the substrate in 3 days with half the spawn i normally use. ideally i want similar yield to a 5 quart tub but im  doubtful that will happen.

Thank you for sharing the thoughts. Very interesting. I'm going over the super-cake formula again so I can start collecting the materials.

The standard 5 qt sub is a high spawn ratio at about 1:2, yoou should easily be able to use 2 qts for a tub but 5 is very convenient

yeah exactly. recently, i generally use 1:2 spawn ratio with 5 quarts spawn/ 10 quarts sub. im trying to get away with using less spawn to colonize and fruit in the same time frame. side by side with 6 other tubs i did 1:2 spawn ratios with 5qt/10qtsub they are all fruiting at the same time as the slurry tub that i used 2 quarts with. i did decrease sub volume to 9 quarts. 1: 4.5 ratio is what im using now. another goal is to make less spawn. i posted a bunch of this a  few pages back but once the whole thing is complete ill update it in one post.

Okay. So if we can get a full tub colonized in 3 days with 2 qts of spawn then thats amazing. The possible draw back is a lower yield b/c less grains in the mix. I am excited to see the results with the super-formula b/c the monster fruits you have posted (mushrooms as long as your arm). This is what I'm thinking, in case anyone is reading and like to play around.

1. use 2 qts of slurry grain to get the tub colonized in 3 days

2. Instead of the normal CVG sub, throw in a grain flour mix within the sub during pasteurization. This may allow for the normal 7 - 12 oz first flush tubs as using the higher spawn ratio's but without the work of having to create all the spawn.

----
I am doing this. Just in case anyone wants to know. I can see this possibly working based on my oven pasteurized cakes and other current ovene pasterized spawn media projects that are going on now.

:awethumb:

EDIT: Not to mention how fast grains like to colonize with slurry.!!!!!!

well for me making grain flour is more work and using brf is expensive. thats why i grow off wheat grass mostly. a 50lb bag of the stuff will last more than 5 years.

anyway,

here is the update to the 2 slurry tub.

updated this post.

ok ill go into more detail when i have time. ill update this and the slurry thread.

this is day 12 from an uncased slurry tub. my grow room temps went sky high today at 83 when i got back. so it screwed my shit a little. anyway, this is 2 quarts of wbs grain slurry to 9 quarts volume CVG. NO casing and was spawned and fruited by day 12. the actual quart jars that were used had come from a slurried pf jar which took approximately 3 days to colonize. the spawn run was 3 days and the tub was placed into fruiting on day 4.

]

side by side with a low spawn ratio this tubs fruits are bigger than the tubs i did with the substrate as casing method ala fahtster. but, i didn't make the substrate topping more than 1/4-1/2". next go round im going 3/4" depth. i plan to do about 5 cased and 5 uncased tubs with the slurry side by side with a tex clone on the next go round.

Yup, Just logged back on hoping their would be and update. Speed guys. Even Paul says speed is the number 1 factor when cultivating in his books.

3 days to colonize dozens of grain jars.
3 days to colonize a tub.

Show me one tek that can beat this speed! I challenge anybody to do this and I will rate you 5 shrooms.

ok so here are a bunch of cased substrates that were spawned normally to CVG.  well kind of cased. they were cased using substrate that was left over. so 4 quarts were mixed in with the substrate. then 1 quart laid flat on top, then about 1/4-1/2" of sub was put on top. fruits turned out a little smaller than i like. but these pics are a few tubs on day 12 from spawn to fruit. really all these grows are for is to test my new rig! i had to increase the fan speed as the tubs on one stack were not dialed in as the right stack. the temps got up to 83 degrees so i removed one light. im also pushing air into the room with a fan to cool it. fan speed in the grow room is now set to 2 instead of 1.

these are all tubs done from 1 pf cake slurry clone done via 9er tek. that pf jar wws slurried into 40 quarts. im going to attempt regular cased substrates on the next go round. here was the 2 day shot. the substrates were oven pasteurized. the inner core temp was brought to 170 and maintained for 2 hours.

something like this.

anyway, finally had the time to get a clone going and actually do a few runs to dial in my new setup for the new year. im also doing 3 tubs that are not cased. one is on my previous post above but that has the grain slurry 2 quart in it. the other 2 uncased tubs have 4 quarts of spawn per 10 quarts of substrate. usually pick em earlier but after a 2 hour harvest had to go back to life and then didn't get to harvest the rest until that evening.

You are a smart man. The speed is a leading factor in eliminated contams. Trust me and others. We have the experience. I dont even have the special blender yet and do my shit in open air but get results.

NOTE< I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO BE LESS STERILE. I'm just letting you know how contam resistant that speed can provide. Think about it, Can contams out run a myceilium that colonizes in 3 days?
