fruiting problems
    #2100564 - 11/13/03 06:00 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

well i am trying to fruit me first cake. It is b+ being grown in grain. I have dunked/cold shocked it(24hours) and than rolled it in verm. it has been getting light and fanned 2 times a day. The chamber has just the right humidity(condensation on the walls) and i have been keeping it at a temp between 68-75. It has been in the chamber for almost 3 weeks and nothing. the myc. still looks healthy but i am starting to get worried. i don't see any pins (but it is kinda hard to see the cake without picking it up, and i don't want to do that). does anyone have any suggestions with what might be wrong and what i can do to correct this.ANY AND ALL HELP IS WELCOME.

b+ are notorious for stalling at all the most annoying times. One thing about b+... they can teach you patience.

Anyone who doesn't experience b+ stalls is one lucky mycologist, IMHO.

well, I think Cervantes is right, you should wait for the b+ patiently, never the less it' possible that the problem is in the substrate. if the substrate is too thick, hard or compressed the myc wouldn't grow freely and you maybe just have a superficial colonization, not allowing the myc net gathering the suficient nutrients.

how was your substrate/cake procedure?

Aye give it a lil more time. Started 3 jars on 9/19/03 only 1 now is fruiting. They take forever sometimes. Here's a pic of a B+ BRF cake after dunk/roll/coldshock. Personally I would recommend initiating pinning via the temp cycling method before coldshocking/dunking/rollin. Definitely helps them fruit like a week faster. GL and Patience is a Virtue.
