Do you have an actual rack though? My trivet is like.5" and the racks I see for other PCs are actual racks which stand up 2" or so.

No, mine is the disc that has holes in it and sits at the bottom of the canner. My canner has valve on it rather than the weight so you may experience more loss but I cant imagine it being to the point where it runs completely dry. Just fill it up until the water touches the bottom of the jars while on the rack and you'll be fine

Ok, I'll try that if I have a bigger load. I won't be PCing for a bit since I have 20 BRF colonizing now throughout the house.

The small trivet has burn marks from the jars on it. Is that normal and to be expected?

Should I clean this thing after each use?

I clean my canner after each use unless I'm doing multiple cycles in a day, then I don't bother. The rings on the bottom are normal.

Just scrub the inside with soap and water and put it away (with the lid upside down), yeah?

That's good you clean it. Totally worth taking care of. Though I've never cleaned mine cause I'm always using the damn things

I apply a small amount of vaseline around the lip where the lid makes contact with the pot every 5 cycles just to ensure the lid comes off nicely after a cycle.

i have same trivet as you. i've never run it with water level below the trivet, even short cycles for agar or liquid cultures. its ok for jars to touch water, i promise.

u can clean it after every cycle...but I'm gonna go ahead and guess that in a month life will have its way with you, and that routine will go out the window...

it is truly a great piece of equipment. don't sweat the small stuff.

Hey one last thing, always remember to take the weight off before you try and open your PC. It gets really good suction, even when left overnight.

Definitely. It told me to remove it as soon as it hits 0PSI, but others told me just do it before I take the jars out in the morning. That's what I do.

Do you guys store yours with the lid upside down in the bottom?

if u don't need to run more jars, just leave it. i dunno why, but i have the worst luck with broken qt jars if i let steam escape too early, even after 0 PSI.
i used to store mine like that when not in use, but now its just stored like it would be if cooking. none of the handles are up tho.
