Pepper Identification

Hi all,so I was wondering if you guys could help me identify this type of Pepper I have growing.I thought them to be CowHorns,but they aren't hot at all,and are pretty darn sweet.Here are unripe,and ripe fruits,so you guys can take a look.

That pepper definitely has red cayenne in its recent genetic makeup.\

I'm guessing that particular plant or plants(s) just turned out sweet.

Probably a plant that just didn't end up having hot fruits.

Ok, so I looked it up...

They are 'mildly spicy' cultivars and 'mildly hot' and 'hot' cultivars so that means that some plants can be sweet, spicy, or hot....  I guess you should shoot for breeding and selecting plants that are hot to stay true to the type and that sports of sweet and mildly spicy plants are common.

Hmm,well,I thought for sure the peppers that I saved the seeds form were really hot,but it's cool,because I needed some sweet Peppers anyway,and they are really good!I believe I actually have some real cayenne's growing,and they are pretty hot.I'll post a pic or two of them tomorrow,and maybe you can tell em what you think.Thanks for the replies:thumbup:

those in the later pic should be hot as balls and tangy.

There are a couple types of Purple Cayenne.

Some have upright fruit until they turn red.
Some have fruit like the one you showed.  Select for the tangy flavor and more pointed fruits.

It is hard to select for flavor on those since they are so friggin hot.

Tip:  You can harvest all the peppers at the end of the season for purple cayenne, just pick the ones that are red as soon as they start changing to red.  It is a big labor saver when growing purple cayenne.  basically you just pick off the first few flowers early in the season when you plant or close to when you plant, give them full sun and plenty of food, pick off the red peppers once in the season, then wait till the season is nearly over and pick the plants and separate the peppers, toss the green ones aside (you can use them but don't have to) and then process everything.  really tangy crazy nummy taste but they are super hot.

Yeah,I thought they were cayenne,and they are hot as hell! Thanks for the tips:thumbup:That plant is so loaded down with peppers right now,I'll have to end up drying them.Got another one for you to ID tomorrow,when it's light out:cool:

Wonder what these could be?They look just like miniature bell peppers,and mature to a dark purple black.

I never had any peter pepper seeds,but when ripe they look just like tiny miniature bell peppers.I'll post more pics as they ripen,and I'll show you just how small they are:cool:
