False Chanterelles?
    #20534310 -

ok so we found these things a few years in a row and when we were sure they weren't jack-o-lanterns we chowed down.  They are the best shroom I've ever eaten!  Meaty with a fruity/savory taste!  Because the tops are a variegated color with orange on the outside and red-orange in the center, and because they are not white inside, I think they are false chanterelles-- but those are NOT supposed to taste good!  Also they grow on dead wood, and these do.  What have I been eating that tastes so damn good?  They DO smell of apricots.

Perhaps This?

Some regard it as edible. It is a mycorrhizal species though...

The only saprobic chantarelle lookalike I can think of is jack o lanterns (omphalotus). Incidentally omphalotus also smells like apricots... but they don't have that color difference you are describing.

Wow leschampignons, that's quite a look-alike!  The only chanterelle look-alike I've ever heard mentioned is the jack-o-lantern's, and to me they don't really look anything like a chanterelle.  Those ones sure do though...

Have some medicinal mushrooms and want to get the most out of them?  Try this double extraction method.
