 Yet another Perlite/PMP question

Picked up an airstone, pump, and tubing. Going to put it together tomorrow, but I have a question. The general ration of water and perlite is 3 inches perlite, 2 inches water. Wouldnt the perlite float on top of the water? If it does, how do the cakes stay on it stabily? stabily..is that even a word?
Oh, one of my airstones bubbles only at like 2 places, the other bubbles at 6 places. Anyway to remedy this?

I'm gonna suggest lava rock instead of perlite. Reusable. Bubblers work better with it. Less messy.

Hey would a hydro shop be the best place to get verm? or should i go to home dePOT?

Magash, im not concerned with messyness as much as effeciancy. How much is lava rock? Where do they sell it? On a related note, where did you buy your geolite your friend used for the original PMP?

Geolite: Hydro Shop, Internet*

Thanks...you can find vermiculite at nurserys and infact i got mine yesteday at Lowes. 1 bag of peat moss, verm, and perlite all came out to $9 something
