Growing pot for DUMMIES 101

Recently I had 2 pot plants growing outdoors from mid-grade seeds for about 3 weeks. Well, I moved one inside to my closet under a fluorescent lamp light 16 inches above plant, kept a air purifier in the closet, as well as a fan running slow, cool wind towards the plant, getting rid of some of the heat, and watered when plant was dry, and ran light cycle generally same as natural sunlight.
Well, days later the plant moved indoors died, so I was reluctant to bring the other one in fearing the same would happen, but a friend who knows (I thought) more than me about this said I have to bring the other plant in, because it's getting too cold, and I did'nt want it to be outdoors during the first frost. So, stupidly I moved the other plant indoors as well, and tried to keep a more careful eye on the plant in case history repeated itself, well it did, and now this plant is dieing a slow death where all the leaves wrinkle up, and some leaves have a brown spotting affect on them.
For my question, the only thing I can figure that I'm doing wrong with growing the bud plants is I always make do with the lights that are in my room, the soil we already have, and the plant food I already own.....My question is, is it almost absolutely necessary to follow most grow guides in the exact kind of soil, grow lights, & plant food it reccomends?

Yes, its a good idea to follow a grow guide for anything exactly. After a few good go's, you can start innovating and trying your own thing.

Dude, if you are using flouros you HAVE TO keep the light within a FEW inches, NOT 16!!!!

if you really want to grow, buy a HPS and build a box or set up a room for it, dont look for the easy way or whatever, you get what you put into it, if you give them shitty ferts they will taste like shit, and not produce as much as if you spend the money on quality organics and do all the proper procedures... it bothers me to see so many ppl want to do these things, but without following a guide, or buying anything... haha whatever tho fluros work well enough if you know what your doing.. all heresay tho of course

Fluorescents used to be all that was used for indoor growing back in the day before high intensity discharge lighting came into the scene. They still have their merits. They produce way less heat than a HPS or MH allowing you to put them inches away from the plant. For this reason they work good for seedlings, clones, and young plants in general.

First off, you wont get good bud structure from floros(unless you have several compact bulb syyle floros). You need a fan on the plant, and fresh air exchange. You can cheeplky make a 175 watt mh for 50$, and will have some killer buds with it, pm me for info
