i fuckin HATE when i do that!!
that happens to me with plastic lids sometimes too, straight outta pc.  damn plastic :oldman2:

Ya I like plastic lids better because G2G is an easier process for me.  But they do come dangerously loose when they pc.  I make sure to tighten them once I get them out.

I actually pc'd 10 jars today and covered them with foil.  Well one of the covers was kind of bogus and it got one of my custom SFDs hot and steamy.  Wellllll.. It actually made the filter look even flatter and "sturdier".  I may not use foil covers anymore..

That's alright, I actually wasn't sure until yesterday's PC.. I covered all 10 with foil but one didn't have a good seal and the sfd got steamed... well it worked out and it didn't seem to let any water in.

Yeah my AA 921 fits 10 QT jars as well and I reuse 10 foil covers as well, however they do get holes once and a while or get torn.  I used a few yesterday that I probably shouldn't have and that's how I learned that I might not even need foil lol.. but since I'm OCD and a pussy.. I may just use them anyways... time shall tell

That's my motto.. Frank wipes all his jar's with iso before putting them into his SAB and say's it's up to you if you wipe them again once they're in the SAB.  Like Frank say's "Any extra risk is too much risk"  or something like that   Do things right the first time or your whole damn process gets screwed.

All that wasted effort and patience.. damn shame.

So I went ahead and made my tubs with these discs (a bit modified)  Here's a link if any of you have any suggestions! How I make my monotubs  Maybe this can be a standard usage for anyone who wants to take a little more time on their monotubs and have it be that much more automated.

  I like the idea of using flat material for monotubs, I made a mini monotub that used tyvek and it worked wonderfully. I honestly didn't feel like messing around with trying to pack polyfill in there and getting it to work just right. Good to see you are being creative with this idea. Absolutely brilliant.

Thanks I just felt like there is room to improve and if I can make cultivation easier and less stressful why not?  As long as the tubs are taken care of the bottom holes should last a very long time with little to no maintenance.

Water proof?  I always use tin foil to cover them while I'm pc'ing them.  I guess I don't have a definitive answer to that one.  IMO any chance is too much chance.

I use poly on my lids and I've read that you don't need to cover it with foil but for the few seconds it takes I put foil on anyway.

I recently took "the leap", i.e. I was out of aluminium foil. From my experience, a good, tightly pulled Poly-fil filter does not need to be covered. This worked with jars and some little PP5 containers I use for agar; both uncovered, both turned out fine.

The only precaution I take is once the pressure in the PC has "normalized" I remove the lid quickly, in one swift movement, as to avoid droplets of condensed water falling on the poly. A few of my jars and pp5 containers got droplets on them the first round I tried without aluminium foil, but they showed no sign of being "infilterated" (just made that word up: when something infiltrates your filter it has been infilterated )

Oh and yeah, second precaution I took was being very mindful of how much water I put in my PC (16qt presto); that is, I usually put like 3 quarts of water in the PC just to be safe, this time (and from now on) I put 2 maybe a little less and watched the rocker carefully.

My best guess is that when the droplets landed on the filter, everything was still hot and evaporating

Poly-fil is hydrophobic also.

Hope that's helpful.

You know sheets of ez felt are 99 cents for like 2x4 feet and are the exact same thing you are making.
