Can I use this as a SFD?
    #14832490 -

Amazon

Any idea if I can use this to make SFDs for my LC jar lids?

No you cannot use that in place of SFDs.

The description says 2 micron not .2 micron

Filters that allow .22um are ideal. Just purchase SFDs from

Everything Mushrooms Here

I purchased 48 when I first started & still have 12 left over.

You can cut them to fit your hole like this:

On a related note, any idea if I can use a lid with a ez felt GE filter and an RTV blob for an inoculation port with this LC tek? I don't have a PC atm and this is the only LC tek i could find that doesn't require one.

It seems like you can, but I would be worried about how much water the EZ felt is going to be exposed to by boiling it like that.

No, I'd be worried about the EZ felt getting wet. Just like you don't want tyvek or poly fill to get wet when you're PCing them.

And what would happen if it got wet? Will that give contams a place to grow on the filter?

What about baking the lid in the oven (and boiling the ring and jar) since the ez felt, silicone, and metal lid don't melt until higher temps?

you gonna bake your lid after youve loaded the jar with grains.

and after you accidently got your filter wet from your PC run?

He doesn't have a PC...

I'd just man up and spend the $60 for a cheap PC or just buy an AA for a little extra cash & have it last a lifetime.

I love my AA930. Wouldn't trade her for anything...well maybe a 941 or 975X

Im not making a grain lid... im making a LC lid and then using the tek i linked above. Im in school right now and not working so I can't afford the PC atm.

What I meant was, while the jar is boiling in water for 30 mins like the tek says, I would put the lid in the oven for about 60 mins. When I'm ready to take the jar out and add the honey, I would take the lid out of the oven and put it on at the same point as the tek says. And then put the sealed jar back into the boiling water where the water level is only halfway up the jar (exactly like the tek) so the filter doesn't get wet.

I'm also considering placing a filter on each side of the lid. The filter on the inside of the lid would stop any water from reaching the filter on the top of the lid.
