Polyfil Vs Tyvek for tub air exchange
    #3999320 - 04/01/05 11:03 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Hows it going shroomery. I havent made a post here in a while, dealing with school and all that.

Anyways, i currently have 10 one quart jars of rye colonizing and i think i have decided on what to do with them. Looks like it will be something similar to ohmatics mono tub as seen here. In the tek ohmatic uses a number of holes in the side of his rubbermaid stuffed with polyfil for air exchange.

My question is would there be any advantages or disadvantages you all could think of to, instead of using polyfil, using tyvek? Tyveks free and polyfil is cheap so thats not an issue.

Its just a minor detail in this whole project im taking on so thought id see what you guys thought. Thanks as always shroomery =)

I think that it would be a disadvantage to use tyvek because polyfil would allow better air exchange.

Either will work.
Polyfil will allow for a bit more air exchange, IMHO.

agreed. also, the poly is easier to replace as needed. tyvek typically involves glue and cutting and, all around, more labor for you.

Polyfil is definitely the better choice here.

Some notes on hole placement and drilling: Make sure your holes are good size, 1/2" or so, and that they are as level as possible with whatever casing surfaces you have in your chamber. That's important, the holes will do no good if they sit below your cropping surface.

Also, before you go drilling plastic, it's a good idea to heat the drill sites with a blow drier first, to prevent blasting huge holes in your $$ container by accident.

Ok good luck, and the blow drier thing is more for hard plastics, not necessarily the soft rubbermaid type.
