cake jars and tape
    #1991842 - 10/09/03 12:01 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I am concerned that as I set my jars aside to let the mycelium grow that it may be contaminated. What sort of tape should I put over the holes? I want gas exchange of course but I dont want contam. Any help would be much appreciated.

I used to use medical tape, the sort thats used to hold a dressing in place. But a loose lid of tinfoil also works fine.

Thanks Paid! Now when you say a loose lid of tin foil do you mean that you should just put some tin foil over the top of the tightly closed jars and just let it sit loosley on top or do you mean that you should actually loosen the cap and then let put tin foil over the loosened cap? Sorry for my dumb questions btw.

I mean to place a piece of tin foil over the screwed tight lid,
like an extra layer, then just squeezed on to fit. You can also put an elastic band on it to hold it in place.
