Cake that recovered from contam???...

Yo,
I have 10 jars (PF style) that have been colonizing since 11/27 and in one jar I had a slightly dark spot that was *maybe* about 2 millimeters around showing up at the top of the jar right at the dry verm layer . This showed up when the cake was maybe 75% colonized. I pulled the cake out of the incubator and instead of tossing the cake and jar right away, I decided to observe the contamination take over the jar. Since I've withdrew the cake, the colonization has steadily continued and the spot has *shrunk*! It's now unnoticable! I was fairly confident that the spot was contam, but now I'm not so sure. Has anyone else had a cake that has recovered from a contamination and continued on to fruitation?
Later, Dr. G

Yes but you have to be sure about the existence of the contam inside the cake, i've seen contams being overun by mycelium on the surface but not on the inside. Just scrape the place were the contam is/was with a scalpel or a small spoon, if there's no sign then it should be ok.

Why do you think mushrooms aren't extinct? They can fight off mild contams.

like MAIA said contams can be overcome and the mycelium can retake formally infected areas
However some contams start from the inside out, so although the top layer seems fine, take a small cutting to check and be sure
and best of luck to you!!!!!!!

95% chance the middle is rotten to the core.
Ive seen what apeared to be the mycellium take over, but only to be tricked of the mycelium just growing over it on the outside. Completely rotten in the middle.
