Healthcare.gov Website Rework to Cost an Additional $121 Million!

The contractor hired to fix the ObamaCare exchange website announced Tuesday that it would cost $121 million to get the site ready for a second open enrollment period in 2015.

In a statement posted on its website, Accenture Federal Services said the contract it had agreed with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) covers initial repair work, as well as "enhancing back-end capabilities to improve issuer payments and plan management including deploying new features."

The agreement runs until January 10, 2015. Accenture was tapped to repair the glitch-laden site this past January 11 after CGI Federal, the original contractor in charge of the site, was fired.

The new contract is worth approximately $30 million more than the one CGI was given to build HealthCare.gov and has already drawn the ire of some Republicans in Congress.

"There doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Obamacare website expenses," House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told The Washington Times. "Developers are still being brought in to finish building HealthCare.gov, some states are abandoning their own failed sites, and federal taxpayers are still being handed the bills for it all."

CMS officials told the Times that the richer contract is explained by the fact that its requirements specify website functions that were not included in the initial contract.

The White House has said that more than 8 million Americans have enrolled in heath plans through the federal exchange since they debuted this past October. However, it remains unclear how many enrollees have paid premiums.

This is in addition to the 30 million, and the $115 million the first company got (and they botched the job, but still got paid?)

Luckily we have prisoners paying the government money (though it's likely a private institution) for their time served. This should offset those costs :rolleyes:

Hey hey guys.  This "creates jobs" and is an "economic stimulus"

its better to hire incompetents and make them re-do it 5x in loony liberal land.  That creates 5x the amount of jobs and 5x as much "stimulus" for the economy!

hell once they finally get it working right they should just delete it all and start over!  Think of all the jobs it could create!  Unemployment would be the lowest ever!

Well they should hire a whole bunch of hole diggers and window breakers!  That would both reduce unemployment and raise GDP!  Or they could hire people to build chairs then burn them all in a bonfire... same effects.

This is the problem with private contracting government work. It is so inefficient. The federal government should have an system wide IT department that can do work like this.

yeah, i was really being sarcastic, like... as much as you can imagine. it'd be extremely easy for anyone to take up running things. i mean, if they had the pedigree, that is... they have some knowledge of commerce, defence administration, ect...

this "president" thing is way overrated, but maybe i'm just an anarchist? :shrug: i don't really know.
