Well I certainly don't know everything, heh, but I figured I SHOULD post what I DO know.....
I know a lot of people here are wary of releasing their address to others for trades because they're worried the other person might be a narc. If the gov' wanted to raid one of us, they would. They don't need us to give them any info.
and here is why I feel I can say this -
I have a friend who used to work for a certain branch of the gov' and would track people down online. That was his job.
We were both visiting the same forum for a while, and one of the users there was a HUGE dick to everyone.... you know, arrogant, racist, probably 13, etc.... And he wouldn't leave, when he got banned he could somehow reset his IP and would just create a new account and keep being a dick. So my *friend* decided that enough was enough, and using nothing more than his IP and his ICQ #, he found and made public (to everyone on that board) the guy's real name, address, social security number, phone numbers, family, family members addresses and phone numbers, and general personal information. It's not hard (apparently). I don't know how he did it, but I know that it only took him a couple days to gather all the info. So I would say that if you're worried about the po-po gettin ya, then don't post at all. They don't need you to tell them your address if they want it.
Actually, another way to prevent this is to use a browsing re-routing site.... I don't remember any addresses (how useful) but I do know they exist. They connect you to a remote server and it basically hides your real IP. I'm not sure how effective this would be against the gov, but I guess it couldnt hurt.
