Anyone who plays counter strike knows you can easily take out at least three fully armed opponents with a knife in rapid succession.

They had to kill him.

he was walking away, did you not see what i see?

i saw him get 'shot in the back'

those cops are blood thirsty, clearly making irrational decisions,

is it illegal to hold a knife?
i saw no attempted murder by the bum.

I saw what you saw, not saying it's right just that if you pull a knife out in the presence of cops you will get shot.

I see no knife.

Most cops aren't the best of people, because if they want to be a cop that already says a lot about their personality.

If you become a cop you support the idea, whether you're one of the "good guys" or not.
And the idea is people can't handle their own problems, and need to be protected.

Relax the gun laws.  Let everyone have a gun, not just the bad guys and cops.
People can protect themselves from threats.
Relax the drug laws.  Less violent crime (and drug "crime").
Laws cause crime. It's obvious to someone using their brain.

This murder is far from justified.  What do they make tasers for if they aren't using them?

On a side note, I can't believe this footage was actually released.

I'm kinda 50/50.

Dude did have knives in his hands but they were over zealous as hell.

It was justified but not morally right I guess. The dude was clearly crazy a bean bag to the face would have shut him up..

Police training manuals state that a knife is a threat to life within 21 feet of the person wielding it.  The K9 counts as an officer in every capacity legally speaking, and it appears those officers may be within the striking range (according to police protocol) of a knife attack by the homeless man as well.  Because the K9 was within striking range of the man and the man was, according to the account, attempting to use knives, then that makes the shooting appear legally justified.

Morally justified is a different thing.  I'm not sure how I feel about it.  My opinion's been biased by reading this entire thread.

Yeah one thing you don't do is pull out two knives when a group of cops have assault rifles pointed at you.

- The only thing here that is dumb is after shooting him multiple times the attempts to handcuff him and get him to drop the knife. He's dying, don't think he can do much of anything now.

That's exactly what I was thinking about...the dog being considered an officer.

However the guy wasn't being overly aggressive at least what i can tell from the small clip but at the same time, I've never heard of a guy hiking with two butcher knives, one in each hand.

It's kind of fucked up any way you look at it.

If I had a dog that was latched onto a guy that had a knife in each hand then I'd prob shoot the fucker too, honestly. Of course, the whole matter wouldn't have happened if either A) the man just complied or B) the officers wouldn't have been such dicks about a bum camping.

After watching it again is say hell no.

He's getting ready to walk away but they throw a flash bang ANYWAYS then in the heat of the moment he draws the knives, the poor dude probably can't even see shit then they taze him, shoot him and then move closer and bean bag him.

Do they not realize that after the flash bang went off he couldn't see or hear any orders that were given and the shock to his system from the tazer AND bullets probably rendered him unable to comply even if he came back to his senses.

I don't think it was right at all because they threw flash bang although the shooting became justified at the point the knife draw especially with the K9 so close.

But overall they should have just escorted him off but then again maybe he had already threatened them, lots of what ifs.

Do you believe the nazis were justified in murdering over 12-20 million Jews, or the Khmer Rouge was justified in the slaughter of 3/4 of a million Cambodians? If you answered "no" to either of these, then you have your answer as to whether the shooting of a man with no guns was justified.

Realistically, though, the police had no reason to feel threatened.
They're geared up like they're in the military.
Would 2, 2-inch knives really do anything if he had actually acted on any possible threats?  He's out-numbered and out-armed.

wow.. why did they have to use live ammo..?

i'm sure some riot pellets or something would of be efficient.. its not as if he took a step in any cops direction with those knives... they were just waiting for him to pull something

i bet these cops were all jacked up on meth and steroids too, just hunting people cause fuck you i got a badge.

then you choose not to see and it must be based on your views that all cops are shitty from the outset

the knife is as clear as day and unlike the misleading story, they knife
is easily twice the length claimed, and even with a cop's foot on his arm,
being shot with beanbags and bit by the dog, he's still got a fucking knife
in his hand

I'm not a cop, I wouldnt have given him a second chance to drop the knife,
I say drop it and if it doesnt immediately get dropped, I'd have dropped
him with 2 in his chest, it's self defense in my case, wouldnt you agree
