I HAVE BUGS!!!!!!!!!!

so after like 3 weeks of not doing anything in the terrarium. i looked at one of the cakes and bam there was a large mush growing out of it. i couldnt believe my eyes. but now theres a family (when i say family, im talkin FAMILY) of black flies living in there. they appear to be liking the cakes but are not really on the mush themselves. anyone???

are bugs bad?

Yes they are bad. They bring other contaminants with them.

Never had flies myself. Maybe you could try and kill the flies somehow
(Fly agaric and milk?-), then wait and see if contamination occurs...

Anyway I'd say its safe to pick and eat the ones you have now, if
there is no contamination yet, only flies. Anyone have more experience in this?

If your terr. is large enough. you can attach a fan to the side with a hepa filter on the inside of the fan. Use one of those fans that are on computer modems. Or set a fan blowing on the outside of terrarium. The point of the fan is to keep flies from landing or entering terr. Also put H2O2 or alcohol in bottom of terr. Or even put a strip of fly paper in terr. That has worked for me.

i got hit by gnats this summer...

harvest what u can, throw out everything, wash down the terrarium wiht a bleach solution, and start again....
