Its all about initiating the primordia. cold shocking works great. ut you could get was more shrooms then that if you just laid some colonize rye grain down in a tray with a layer of moit verm on the bottum and a good, even casing layer on top.

I asked my friend's cousin how he grew them. The following is a quote: quote: They are just PF strain bought from PF. I used the PF Tek maximum fruiting formula. The only thing I did differently in preparing the cakes was that I sprinkled the rice/verm into the jars very lightly - just making sure that there were no air-pockets. They took about 3 weeks to fully colonize. They were at room temp, 60's at night, high 70's in the day. I kept the caps on tight unless there was significant water buildup, then I tightened them as soon as the water dissipated. I didn't birth them until I saw dozens of good-sized primordia. My terrarium is a large strerilite tub with a loose-fitting no-drip transparent lid with an aquarium light sitting on it. There is a heating pad under it set on low, 4 inches of moist perlite in the bottom and two pickle jars full of peroxide/water with mini aquarium heaters in them. The temp was a constant 80 degrees fahrenheit. It is kept in a dark, draft-free place. The cakes were placed on an upside-down lid full of very moist vermiculite, and I misted the cakes heavily with a weak peroxide solution about one time per day (only when they were totally dry to the touch). I even kept on misting after the bodies appeared. That's about it. All my other cakes were almost as good as this one.

my cousin's uncle's friend think that .. your cake look so damn nice because you were patient. you birthed after you saw a lot of primordia. it also seems that you grew it at a fairly cool temp.. (60's) this is great since they are supposedly more potent that way because it seems to mimick nature more closely. Great Job..------------------ To see the light is not enough.. brainnoise

Mycelium5150, Are you sure about it being ok to let PFs grow fully? My friend's cousin harvested the cake just after he took this pic. Darn. This morning he harvested a cake that was almost as good (he might post the pic later). He let it develop a little longer but not much. He got 62 wet grams from that one cake, could have had 100.------------------ That's Mr. Magicpurplecow to you!
