You are correct that imaging paper has a higher "resolution" than the output from a printer. It is an analog process, but it doesn't have an unlimited resolution. The grains of the light sensitive materials are not too different than pixels. In the larger formats, the old ways still have the advantage, but the CCD sensors have overtaken the smaller formats like 35mm film, except maybe in the lowest ISO ratings. Film is vastly more expensive, less sensitive to light and now has a lower resolution. I can't see how it will continue to exist. And, once the front end of the process is all digital, the detail in the final print will depend on digital pixels and DPI.


From my understanding black and white has about 10x the resolution as a color film.  This is due to the composition of black and white film hehe.  Film will always dominate the Medium and Large format spectrum of photography.  (I can't imagine anyone making an 8x10" sensor for a large format camera and it being under a few hundred grand.)

I've made soap with a mixture of hamburger grease and peanut oil. It was pretty harsh because I probably used too much sodium hydroxide, but it was the best clean up soap after doing stuff like fixing the lawnmower, or changing the oil in the car.

Hey making soap sounds like a cool project.  I may end up trying it someday and scenting them with natural essential oils.  I need to get an essential oil extraction setup though first.

I seriously want to make Fight Club soap bars some day

My great grandma once told me how to make it with lard. Then told me about the police mistaking her for a prostitute one time in the 30's. Anyway nice to know I'm not the only one that wants to make home-made soap :grin: and interested in what I could scent and color it with.

I just poured the soap into a shallow cardboard box, coated with wax paper and let it age in there, then cut the bars from the big sheet of hardened soap.

i made two nice 2.5lb soap loaf boxes out of scrap wood I had laying around.  just waiting on some oils in the mail.

has anybody tried the "room temp method"?

We'll if you have some lye laying around... hey I made bacon soap.  Worked good. Kind of a woodsy smell. Made the dogs attack your hands

I was talking about the "Fight Club" emblem being on the soap.

Btw, anyone done this yet?  I'm planning on making some goats milk soap.

Lemon Lavender and Patchouli smells kinda kushy

I only use Tea Tree oil soap, though. Smells really green and earthy to me.

Actually, combined, it would probably smell really kushy.. :strokebeard:
