No, it's not really too good. The perlite is wet (try and advoid wet contact) and I don't think it's great to let it get squashed up against something. I did a hole where the mushroom is going and let it have as much room as possible.

if your mushrooms are growing toward the perlite, then you have a lighting problem. Try to have your light coming from the top. The perlite is white, so it reflects the light. To prevent this, soak your perlite in water with food coloring in it before putting it in your terrarium.

having your mushrooms growing out to the side isn't necessarily a bad thing especially if your ceiling is low.

I know a fellow that had his mushrooms do this to him to. He didn't see it until it was time for them to be picked, so there was no telling how long they where resting on the perlite (day and a half at the most). When he picked them they where REALLY HEAVY,because they were water logged. It didn't really cause any damage visually (i'm not sure if it lost potency or whatever). It just took a few more days to dry out than usual.
