The thing about perlite is it's all about surface area. I really don't think that a jar would provide enough surface area for the perlite to be in contact with the air. Why don't you just put the perlite in the bottom of your container?------------------ He who controls the spice, controls the universe....

No bottom? well without a bottom there can be no top, middle, sides, underneath, above, below, or next to. So what you must be saying is that it really has no form at all (like an idea) or "it" does not exist Either way it won't work...unless I've misunderstood you... Oh now i get it. It won't work. For perlite to be an effective means of humidification, you would have to use the entire bottom of your tub with it. I used to use an old 3 foot fridge and tried putting several containers of perlite in it for humidity. It never raised the humidity high enough because the unit was vertical and the surface area of perlite was never enough. Since your gonna use the tub to be the fruiting container, get a cool mist unit. It will be worth it. YOu could still line the bottom of the container with perlite instead of vermiculite though.
