Perlite/Rye media, thoughts

I have read extensively the art of producing mushrooms over the last week. I have seen many methods for the preparation of Jar media. What I haven't seen used often is perlite as part of the media.

From what I understand, aeration (both in the jar and also once cased) and looseness of media (for pouring) are important, desired traits.

Perlite, being a volcanic porous rock, is reknowned for it's ability to wick moisture, and provide "drainage", loosen soil, etc.

Why not use, say, 100 mls perlite for aeration, 100 mils vermiculite for moisture, 200-300 mils rye for food? Or, 100 mls perlite, 200-300 mls rye.

I would like to know anyone's thoughts. I believe I will experiment with this when I start with the jars.

Verm works better for aeration than perlite so skip the perlite.

Ho sylo.
Perlite works for medium also, and with nearly the same water for preparation. BTW, if u have verm, use it, but there are many places in the world, where u cant buy vermiculite. On these countries, we can use perlite in the rice-media. It works.
